During President Jonathan visit to the Gambia, it was revealed to the President by the Nigerian Community in the Gambia that Nigerian passport holder intending to enter the Gambia find it difficult to enter the Gambia with their Nigerian Passport as the Gambia immigration authority at the border often give Nigerian travelers tough time as against what the Ecowas free movement specified which permit free entry for all Nationals of the West African subregion.

Against this background, it is also on record that nearby Cape Verde ( Cabo Verde ) a very beautiful touristic country in west africa with a european standard of living do not permit Nigerian passport holder to enter the country be it for tourism or ordinary visit. Once you enter, cape verde international airport in Praia, Cape Verde, you are immediately turned back despite coming into the country with a good basic travel allowance.

Maybe, President Jonathan should also look into the case of Nigerian that are completely denied entery into Cape Verde. Cape Verde is actually a visa free west african country. But Nigerians are unwelcomed to the country. The Cape Verdean immigrations authority are complaining that whenever, a Nigerian enter their country they do not want to leave. But denying Nigerians entry into Cape Verde is against the Ecowas Treaty signed by all these country that guarantees free movement of persons and goods across their borders.

Nigeria is a nation that is indeed on trial before the world community as our experience lay credence to the fact that our international image has deteriorated more badly.

I thought my friend was exaggerating when he told me he was harassed by Gambian policemen for being Nigerian when he visited that country in 2010 for holidays.
