Re: Is N50,000 Enough To Startup A Barbing Saloon? by Moxie4lyf(m): 6:47pm On Nov 14, 2013
I doubt if 50k will be enough;
Ask yourself questions like how you want your shop to be and all that.
The rent, the Generator, quality Clippers, chairs, etc.
If you gon pay for all this, i doubt if 50k is ever gon be enough...
If i will advise, i advise you take your time and plan well.
Dont just Do "any other barbing saloon" out there;
make something classy and Of Quality 'cos you will Enjoy it in the long run

Shop is not a problem, you don't pay rent every month. it is year, all he needs is a collateral to prove he will pay the rent.

Lordwize: If that is all you have, you can start small and grow from there. Make sure you fix your price between 50-100# Don't fix it more than that o.

If you are good at what you do, please set your price at 500N.

I barb for 1500 here in ikeja....

Fckyourman has said d truth, how ever, my additional is dat u shud buy "super taper plus" type of clipper n dat cost about 8k for 1 den u will support it wit any oda cheap clipper maybe Chaoba of 2500. U need a gud fan or an A/c trust me. N d mirror will cost u close to 4k( front n back. Leave tv out of it first. U will need a waitin chair. Above all d business will need ur tym n skill n a gud PRO.

To attract parents, u need to first win d hearts of dia kids, n wit gud PRO, u will do dat. Kip to many pple away from ur saloon especially idle pple, dey scare off matured customer. I once had a saloon n video game store.

Tho' I owned a small barbar's shop some years ago...I can authoritatively tell you that the cost of starting up a barber'ks shop hasn't changed that much. So, you are very right.

Aside from high brow areas like Maitama, Asokoro, some parts of Lekki and Ikeja...dude can always strive to get a carpenter to construct a portable wooden shop (batcha) for him for about N10k or less.

I wish him goodluck!

..great reply..on point...OP only need to find a place. @OP...I'm not a barber but this I can advise you. When you see a guy invest a lot and open a hair salon/restaurant.....he already had a large clientele...he was already well known for his barber skills/cooking and that is his expanded business...not his start up. If you invest N1 million and open a very nice barber shop...people would not be swarming in for you to butcher their hair. You need to build street rep first....like someone said...start cheap...very cheap with kids....you will make some money in volume and at the same time sharpen yoir skills, make many customers and in time you can open a nice salon. The same kids will be the ones to keep you in business.
