Nigeria is said to be the fourth highest importer of armoured cars worldwide, closely following Iraq, Afghanistan and Latin America.

Also, high ranking government officials particularly members of the Federal Executive (FEC) are the major customers of importers of these armoured cars.

A report obtained from Inkas Armoured Vehicle Manufacturing in the United States shows that Nigeria imports between 600 and 1,000 armoured vehicles annually, to come behind Iraq, Afghanistan and Latin America in that order.

This is about 30 percent of the company’s market worldwide.

The case of Iraq and Afghanistan is understandable due to the war situation; however, people have continued to wonder why Nigeria should be the fourth highest importer of armoured cars worldwide.

With the recent controversy that the purchase of two bullet proof BMW cars by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for the Minister of Aviation, Ms Stella Oduah, the question once again being asked: is a public officer entitled to drive a bullet proof car?
