Sunehri_145: @ beautiful nappy,my hair is at shoulder length ,its relaxed, weak and breaks easily,i want it to grow longer and healthy, pls i need a simple and affordable regimen for it.thanks

1. Put it in protective styles more, not just braid, but also updos, so your ends dont keep scrapping at your clothes and breaking
2. Sleep with a satin scarf to prevent breakage and conserve moisture
3. Moisturize always with water first before you add your oil. Try use more pure coconut and sheabutter in your hair, coconut oil helps protein retention which is what our hair is made of, and shea butter is full of protein and fatty oils for hair hair to grow.
4. Even if you hair is relaxed still use a wide tooth for combing and comb it in sections, you lose less hair that way.
5. Avoid products (Shampoo, Conditioners and Creams) with parabens and petroleum jelly/Oil in them, they will break your hair.
6. Blow dry your hair less. Say about once every two or three months, heats tears down and breaks our hair strands.
7. Check your ends for split ends, if you have split ends your hair will break, so trim your hair every 3 to 6 months to get rid of split ends.
8. If you are looking for low cost then you can try making your products, some house hold ingredients are very good for hair. As a shampoo you can use Black Soap, its 100% Natural cheap and very good for the hair. As a conditioner you can do a simple 1 Egg yolk, Honey, Coconut oil and Shea butter or Avocado or Mayonnaise. Mix the ingredients however you please and put them in your hair. Cover your hair with a plastic cap for 30 mins to an Hour. Repeat this very 2-4 weeks.

These are the basic starter points to healthier hair, if you need anymore help do let me know. Have a blessed day smiley

No problem. Also if you relax your hair every month reduce it, try relaxing every 3 months and only relax your new growth instead of the entire hair. Take care smiley

Re: Grow Your Natural Hair Long by Nomski0(f): 3:28pm On Nov 26, 2013
I have really long hair, past my shoulders actually. But ever since I tinted it light brown, it got so weak that even just a slight brush it pulls a chunk. I've tired shear butter but it still persists. How do i stop it before my hair becomes too short. sad

maureenkell: Pls my front hair have cut finish wat will i do pls

lol @ your sentence. Well if you are trying to grow long hair these are my basic principles:

1. Moisturize: Spray water first, the seal the water in with an oil or butter (sheabutter etc)
2. Sleep with a satin cap: Helps preserve moisture and prevents your hair from breaking
3. Stay way from bad chemicals: In order words try and be as natural as possible, many products in already made shampoos, conditioners and creams are bad for our hair such as alcohol, petroleum jelly, parabens, silicons etc. I dont have the energy to go through all the ingredients so I wash and condition with 100% natural things and use oils and butters only.
4. Comb your hair while its damp with a wide tooth comb: Comb hair dry breaks the hair and makes your scalp hurt.
5. Dont do tight braids, weaves or buns: it pulls your hair from the roots and leads to permanent hair loss.
6. Low manipulation: Leave your hair alone, dont brush or comb it to often or change styles to often.
7. Eat right and drink lots of water: Dark green vegetables like spinach, avocado, eggs, fruits are essential for healthy hair. Hair growth starts from within.

smiley I hope this helps, let me know if you have more specific questions

The dye is drying out your hair like no tomorrow! I did this when I had relaxed hair and after a few weeks I woke up one morning with missing hair! Just make sure you moisturize your hair alot, because dryness breaks our hair alot.
So always spray water in your hair then add oil/shea butter afterwards to seal in the moisture. And dont brush your hair, use a wide tooth comb instead, your hair is fragile at the moment so the wide tooth comb is much gentler. Make sure its damp and in manageable sections before you comb. Also some very heavy deep conditioning at least every 2 weeks is in order. Try this I used it when my hair was dry and the results where really good.
1. 1 Ripe Banana
2. 1 ripe Avocado
3. 3 table Spoons of Honey
4. Coconut oil/ Milk (preferably milk)
5. 1 Egg yolk
6. 2 heaped table spoons of shea butter

After washing your hair, mix all these ingredients and coat your hair with it, cover your hair with a plastic cap and leave for 30mins-1 hour. Repeat every week or every two weeks according to what your hair needs and your hair should get more moisturized and stronger. Try and stay away from harsh shampoos that strip your hair of its moisture and reduce manipulating your hair i.e dont constantly change styles or comb the hair.

I hope this helps smiley

Thanks Miss. I'll report back if I see any improvement.

Btw, should I dye my hair back to its normal color? I'm thinking the tinting would obstruct progress

dontgivafuck: @beau u always said moisturize wit water i tot water isnt dt good for relaxed hair, or is it for d naturals

Water is the only source of moisture for our hair, this is why I always say spray water first. Because oils and butters are sealants, they seal in the moisture, they dont actually supply any moisture. If you spray water in your hair, then add any oil/butter of your choice on it from tip to root, you will notice a softness and elasticity. Natural hair or relaxed smiley . If you are worried about your hair puffying up if you gave relaxed hair, if you wet it a little too much just put in in a pony tail and wrap with a satin scarf so it dries flat.

I have not used a tea rinse yet, its on my to do list. But there are some partial scientific assumptions that indicate that they are good for the hair:

1. Black tea or green tea contains tannins-this compound binds to and precipitates proteins in plants. The tannins in tea can attach to the hair strands making the hair appear fuller. Tannins have antibacterial properties that can help soothe itchy/flaky scalp issues which will help reduce shedding. The tannins also tighten pores, which better protects your scalp from excessive oil and dirt while strengthening your strands to prevent damage.

2. Tea, Black or Green contains Pantheol, which is found in tons of hair products, acts as a humectant, drawing moisture into the hair and helps prevent split ends while conditioning. Vitamin C is known as an antioxidant thought to help heal the scalp. Vitamin E also acts as an antioxidant that helps effective circulation in the scalp due to increased oxygen uptake in blood.

3. The caffine in tea rinses are good as well: Black tea has about 55 mg of caffeine per serving versus green tea's 35mg of caffeine. Traditional drip coffee has 100 mg of caffeine. Caffeine is known for stimulating and increasing blood flow, and thus allowing your scalp to get more oxygen.

When I take out my braids I will try a tea rinse! smiley Have a good day

Hello,

Coconut oil an palm kernel oil are completely different though they are both very good for the hair.Coconut oil is a light and transparent oil, good for conditioning and maintaining the protein structure of the hair and it smells lovely. Palm Kernel as a nutty scent and is sort of brown in colour, it also very good for hair conditioning. Amla oil is an ayuverdic treatment for the hair and is said to be quite good and has a dark colour. Castor oil is never in a cream form, it is however a very thick oil and somewhat transparents oil great for improving hair growth and sealing in moisture. If you live in Nigeria you can buy some of these oil from www.vanityoils.com

Have a blessed day smiley

Hi Beau. I'm presently on low cut, planning on making my hair afro. The problem is that my hair is what they call rubber hair. It usually forms what my sister calls "chewing gum" in front, as in round round. You get? Is this afro thing viable for my kind of hair? Also, how will I keep my hair in check so that it can grow normally for an afro?

Great tips! Thank you smiley

I have unequal hair(not split ends. I trim off my split ends every 4-6mths). Looks like new growth, but since i began using shea butter and coconut oil on my hair it's been growing at an alarming rate! My hair is annoying me right now, pls what do i do about it?
I've been toying with the idea of chopping off the old growth to even the length, but just too chicken to do that sad and still unsure if it'll work.

My other issue is hair breakage. Someone suggested steaming, but i am aware heat isn't good for our hair. Help pls?

My hair frizz a lot, I want this gone pls, and what do I use for fuller hair(body and shine wink )

Also any tips for taking care of hair in weaves? I understand there's always the constant lack of moisture. Pls give responses based on Nigeria climate smiley

Thanks for all the replies so far, i've learned a lot.

lirusehn: abeg how i go fit tey get long beards?

Hello, I dont know if you are male or female but the advice is the same either way.

1. Wear a satin scarf or durag if you are a man to sleep at might to prevent your hair from looking messy, and attract dirt which causes itching and breakage
2. Moisturize your hair, spray water on it then use a light oil like coconut oil to moisturize your locs
3. Keep it clean, be sure to wash it every week or every two week. Locs grow when the hair and scalp is clean and free of buildup, a good natural shampoo that doesnt strip the hair of moisture is dudu osun
4. Dont put too much tension on your scalp, when you twist your locs as tight as you can the pressure you are putting on your edges can lead to a receding hair line and root breakage. A
5. Locs is already a kind of protective style for your hair, so be patient and it will grow, hair grows at 1/2 an inch a month.
