FG Approves Construction Of Rail To Link Oil Depots; Commissions 20 Oil Wagons by awodman: 9:05am On Nov 19, 2013 |
The federal government has approved the construction of additional rail lines to be linked to all oil depots in Apapa, Lagos. The Minister of Transportation, Hon. Idiris Umar disclosed this while speaking at a ceremony to commission twenty pressurized oil tank wagons acquired by the Nigeria Railway Corporation, in Lagos. He said that, “The Federal Executive Council has since approved an addendum for all the loop lines and sidings including links to the oil depots in Apapa. In addition, an addendum has also been approved for the upgrade of Signaling and Telecommunication system from Lagos to Kano.” He noted that the acquisition of the oil tank wagons was a step in the right direction as it demonstrates Nigeria Railway’s commitment to giving quality and value-added service to the Oil and Gas sub sector. According to him, “Following the rehabilitation of the Western Line: Lagos – Kano, the necessity to acquire various categories of rolling stock became more imperative. Therefore the procurement of these pressurised Oil Tank Wagons will help ease traffic congestion, reduce accident and wear and tear of our roads. Upon commissioning these 20 Tank Wagons, we will invariably be taking out about 30 Oil Tankers per trip off our roads,” adding that, order has been placed for the manufacture of two additional locomotives, two power cars and five additional 68-seater Air-conditioned Passenger Coaches to be delivered in 2014. Also speaking at the event, the Managing Director of Nigeria Railway Corporation, Engr. Adeseyi Sijuade said, “The procurement contract for the tank wagons comprises the manufacture and delivery of the tank wagons together with spare parts, and one year’s worth of consumables. It also includes testing· and commissioning on delivery, and training of NRC engineers in utilization and maintenance for the purpose of providing haulage services to oil marketers.” www.vanguardngr.com/2013/11/fg-approves-construction-rail-link-oil-depots/ 1 Like |

These people like showering money on project with little or no impact. Go to oshodi ,and you will see the carcasses of the same oil trains . In a few years, another government will be wasting money on the same thing. Additional rail lines to apapa to Carry oil when the most strategic project would have been to build something . It all boils down to priorities, 1 LAGOS-SHAGAMU-IBADAN high speed rail line with the private sector operating the trains and the government maintaining the tracks . This would take the pressures of Lagos as people can reside elsewhere while working in Lagos . 2 A restriction of the current rail system to cargos (since it is not ready for prime time ) with private sector involvement and the creation/designation of depot cities/towns ,where farmers can bring their produce and get a fair price ,along its entire length. 3the construction of intra city rail networks for places like Lagos ,Ibadan,Kano ,portharcourt etc. An Ordinary 20 km long rail line ( ikorodu - Maryland or rumuogba to choba )would go a long way in easing the pains in those places without distorting/dislocating the local economy ;most especially for road transport workers. Many cities are known to have grown from rail terminus and depots ,in many parts of the world. Things move fast ,from farmers selling their produce at these depots/terminus to receiving incoming manufactured goods ,banks opening branches, trailer parks, bus stations, tractor rental, petrol stations, police station ,schools, hospital etc.all through private enterprise . Until nigeria gets a true patriot who chooses like minded assistants,we will continue having the same set of problems. GDP increase without development. growth with increasing poverty. Nigeria needs Someone who will take his people seriously and believe in their ability. As we speak , ordinary road construction is being done by Arabs ,Europeans and Asians. If we can not construct our own roads.................. Even Fashola(whom I support and defend a lot ) is equally guilty of this. When we get a government that is ready to target projects with the biggest bang for the buck, Nigeria will start rising. But it is not going to happen with a president under whom you get the following. 1 10 presidential jets , numerous helicopters,20 ambulances 2 city gates 3 aso rock buka for billions of naira 4one day ,one fraud. |

FMCL NIGERIA is in need of 20 Tonnages trucks (Box body) to convey her light imported products such as: DAIPERS (Huggies), KETCHUP, MAYONAISE, BAKED BEANS (Heinz'), The SME baby food et cetera. The job is a permanent one as we distribute from Lagos (our Head Quarters) across Nigeria to our various warehouses (Abuja, Kano, Kaduna, Benue, Kogi, Imo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Bayelsa, Edo, Delta, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, Kwara, Anambra, Rivers, Ogun, et cetera). for details Call: 0803-054-6462 -Pastor Cyrus Jesunifemi.. |

bloggernaija: These people like showering money on project with little or no impact. The problem with people like you is that you dont even know how ignorant you are. Havent you heard of the 5 new speed rail projects that the FG is about to commence, having concluded their feasibility studies about 3 months ago? Please try and always ask questions before you post. How can the FG just abandon the present rail system and start building a brand new rail system that will definitely take years to complete? If they do that, people like you will also come out to say they are doing nothing. You people politicize everything because you dont care about Nigeria's change. You only care about your party getting the presidency. |

oyb:You DULL sha!!... So d rail lines that operate 18 trips per day in Lagos and 3 per week Lagos-Kano RELIGIOUSLY and on time for almost 2 years in some cases, just to cite some Examples, have all packed up in yr imaginary mind, ko?? Ya WITCHCRAFT no reach, Guy...... For your painful information, d total No of Containarised Petrol/Diesel Lomotive Tanks is now 60; this 20 was just an addition and they hv been running for some time now in partnership with some Private Oil Firms. It wud even be better once the Rail Extension to some Oil terminals/Farm tanks is completed, just as the Line to d main Apapa Ports was recently completed and is conveying goods inland. Oya Quick, go tell this additional painfull Info to ya Coven members. Una no reach |
