Money laundering: Group tells Lamido to resign, or risk impeachment *As youths stage protest in Jigawa


FOLLOWING the recent arrest of two son of Jigawa State governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido over an alleged money laundering, a group tagged 'Jigawa

State professionals, yesterday asked him to resign as governor or be impeached.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by Mallam Sani Zoro, former national president of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and Alhaji Ishaq Hadejia, a copy of which was made available to journalists in Kano.

"Right now the people of Jigawa State are not only outraged but are collectively ashamed by the unprecedented crudity involved in the alleged theft of the state's billions of naira, allegedly under the watch of their father who is the governor.

They noted that they were with great concern on the magnitude of the allegations of money laundering as labeled by both the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the DSS.

The press Statement, titled, 'Call for immediate Resignation/Impeachment of Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State', stressed that they expressed outraged embarrassment at the revelations of alleged primitive looting of Jigawa State treasury labeled against Lamido's sons.

Based on this revelation, the group then demanded for 'immediate resignation of Sule Lamido as governor to pave way for quick and comprehensive, unhindered investigations into the allegations and also provide the governor with the opportunity to clear himself where necessary in the whole allegations'.

Alhaji Zoro however added that the Jigawa State House of Assembly should hasten the facilitation of the immediate impeachment of the governor to salvage the integrity of the indigenes of the state.

Meanwhile, thousands of youths yesterday took over roads and streets of Dutse, the capital city of Jigawa State causing a long traffic, in peaceful demonstration in support of Governor Sule Lamido.

Reports from the state indicated the youth under the agies of National Volunteers for Sule Lamido (NVFS) which took over the streets moved to the State House of Assembly where they received by the Speaker State House of Assembly, Honourable Adamu Ahmed Sarawa.

Speaking at the State Assembly, the leader of the group Musa Gambo Guri condemned the arrest and detention of Governor Sule Lamido's two biological sons by Economic and Finance Crime Commission (EFCC) and called for their immediate release.

The youths expressed their support to governor Sule Lamido and his administration and appreciated his performance towards improving the socio-economic activities of the state.

Guri described the Lamido-led administration as most transparent and accountable in the country, "it is only governor Lamido that achieving over 90 per cent budget implemention of all his six years in office".
