For people who think that 94 set is better
than the present eagles, i diametrically
disagree with them. Remember that agianst
Zambia in 1994 nations cup finals, the super
eagles struggled against a totally new and
home based zambian team (apart from
bwayla and one other player) to win the the
cup. If we may recall, the main core of the
zambian team all perished in a disastrous
plane crash just few months before the
nations cup and they had to raise an entirely
new team for 94 nations cup. Yet with all
our said talented players, we came from a
goal behind to struggle and win that cup. Yet
some people have refused to acknowledge
and appreciate the present eagles team who
not only played zambia(as defending
champion) in the group stage but went
ahead to beat ivory coast(which the 94 team
struggled to beat by penalty shoot out in 94
nations cup) during regulation time.
Also remember that the present ivory coast
team is the best that ivory cost has ever
assembled and is stronger that their 1994
team in terms of exceptional talents like
kalou gervinho, drogba, yaya toure, kolo
toure etc and yet the present team beat
them during regulation time..
it will also be recalled that the 94 team had
to wait anxiously for their last match against
algeria to qualify for world cup, but the
present eagles already had an advantage
from addis ababa before our last match in
calabar which invariably means that nigeria
already qualified before our last match.
without sentiment, prejudice or bias, I
humbly submit that from the objective,
factual and reasonable point of view, the
present super eagles are better (especially in
terms of positive results) than the 94 squad,
though 94 squad might have had better
individual talents. The fulcrum of my
submission is based on the fact that football
is based on results and not necessarily on
exceptional talents. Do not get me wrong, i
never said that exceptional talents are not
good. All i said is that the nitty gritty of
football is on results and not on exceptional
talents in a team.
Finally, Keshi has done a good job to build
the present super eagles team. Let us
support, appreciate, and encourage him and
our super eagles player instead of making
unnecessary comparisons to discredit all his
hard works and that of the players who took
the bull by the horn even when our super
eagles hit the rock bottom by failing to
qualify for nations cup for the first time.
Let us us stop using such disparaging
remarks like " the super eagles struggled to
qualify for world cup" just because some
of our favorite players are not yet in the
team. Up super eagles!! Up Keshi!!!, Up
NFF!!! Up Nigeria!!!. I am always proud to be
a Nigerian.

I totally agree with the Op but the 94 team went ahead to win the olympic gold medal soo that should also be mentioned as their achievement as well which seem to cast shadow to this present team's success!

the present team hasn't had the opportunity to compete for the Olympics since the team is relatively new. AFCON was their first tournament as a team, prior to which, we really didn't know who made up the team, I bet if you were asked, you would've said Osaze would be at AFCON. Wait for 2016 to determine that

I believe the Olympic event was an under 23 tournament which had only a handful of the players from the 94 squad, a Chunk of the Olympic squad came from the U17 winning team in 1993

But 1994 team was our best and strongest squad

Just bear in mind that the 1994 team got to 12th in the FIFA ranking... Also beat a World cup semi finalist that had Hristov Stoijkov and Kostadinov and alse beat the first team to qualify from Europe (Greece) narrowly lost to a team that has Maradona, Cannigia and Battistuta with Peter Rufai pulling off some world class saves especially a worldy effort from the great man himself after skipping past Okafor easily

Lets see how far this team will go up the FIFA ranking
