Canal Being Blocked In Agungi, Lekki. by shiftmarket(m): 8:56am On Nov 26, 2013
For those familiar with Agungi, they would have noticed in the last one week an attempt to block the only canal that was supposed to serve as an outlet for the water in the bridge area, but someone is not bothered about the only access point into the place but is blocking the canal forcing the water in the canal into the road.

I don't know how to get this to relevant authority so I had to put it here, maybe someone up there will see it and act, because I think it is a serious offense in lagos to block a water way.

Agungi has always been a flood prone area but blocking a vital canal will only make the case worse. I hope this post gets to the relevant quarters for quick action.

One of the major challenges facing Lagos in drainage blockage. I was at Ogba-Ikeja over the weekend and it rained. The rain was a little bit heavy and within a short period of time, the whole road leading to Berger and Agege was filled with water. Many had to roll up their trousers, remove shoes and walking bare-footed in the dirty water. It is high time these challenges are put to rest asap. While thanking the Lagos Government towards fighting this challenge, I know there is still room for improvement.

The problem of the flooding on that bridge did not start with whoever is blocking the drainage, it actually started with those on the other side of the picture of the canal (posted)who built on the water passage. I had expected authority to take action all these years but I have given up on my expectation.

I do not know those who are blocking the canal and was actually taken aback to see sane people blocking a canal. I did more research and was able to get some information that will be of help. There is another road from Ajiran (Ajiran is located at the deep end of Agungi road. It is about 4 minutes drive down the bridge....the new road is off ajiran road almost opposite Ajiran transformer before you enter Ajiran community proper). The road leads you straight to Jakande road giving you access to friends' colony. Then when you are plying that new road , you will see a big canal constructed to channel the water to the lagoon (EKO BA JE TIIII) apparently diverting water from the blocked canal. I was impressed when I saw all these. The new road also helps you to cut out the Agungi - Jakande 6:20 - 8:30 morning traffic. Twin blessings for us.

Whoever is doing the new road is doing a lot of good job and I salute the effort.

As for the blocked canal, the people doing it must make sure everything is perfectly done and left no stone unturned.

I pray they will be able to find a lasting solution to the flooding problem in that area.

I will post the picture of the new canal and the new road once I have taken them(you will fall in love with those efforts)

I just called that number for potholes complaints and the man that picked it said they are not responsible for that. I complained of the large potholes on the BRT lanes (to and fro) along Onipanu - Obanikoro road. He mentioned that LAMATA is in charge of the road.

I am not surprised anymore.

Nobody wants to take action because all of them,(Oba,Eleshin,Odofin and Alh Bakare) have collected money. The canal's problem started when people started selling/buying lands on either side of the canal. Some part of Friends colony are seated on top the canal. All those shops, residential buildings on either side would have to go and that canal raised up then re-connected to the main, bigger canal.

We dey observe. undecided

Nothing is new about that road. It has been in existence as an abandoned project since whenever.
