Anambra Approves Construction of New Govt. House, Three Arms Zone and Judiciary by jbaur24: 7:09pm On Nov 28, 2013 |
The Anambra government has approved the construction of a permanent Government House and a new Governor’s Lodge in Awka, the Commissioner for Information, Chief Jormartins Uzodike, said. Uzodike told newsmen in Awka on Tuesday that the government had also approved the immediate construction of a banquet hall, a new House of Assembly, Speaker’s Lodge, judiciary headquarters and chief judge’s residence. The commissioner, who briefed newsmen on the outcome of the state’s Executive Council meeting, said all the projects would be built at the cost of N4.8 billion and would be cited at Greenwood Layout, in the state capital. He said the construction of the new office complex for the House of Assembly and the extension of the existing legislative building would cost N190 million. He added that the council had approved the rehabilitation of the portion of the expressway between Amawbia Roundabout and the Amansea Bridge in Awka, with streetlights and a pedestrian walkway at the cost of N5 billion. The rehabilitation of the highway would give Awka a befitting look, he noted. “Approval was also given for the construction of Nkwo Nnewi Shopping Mall and infrastructure at the cost of N3 billion and a contract for the review and publishing of the state laws volumes 1 – 10 at N40 million. “The council also approved the construction of the 5.3 kilometers Achina-Onneh-Agbudu-Ogboji Road at the cost of N770 million, as well as a 3.4-kilometer road from Nnokwa to Ichida at the cost of N580 million. “The construction of Afor Umunya-Odumodu junction-Onitsha-Enugu expressway was also approved at the cost of N240 million, as well as the construction of 22 kilometers road across the state at the cost of 6.3 billion,’’ he said. The commissioner added that approval had also been given for the reconstruction of the Nkitaku-Obe-General Hospital Road in Agulu at the cost of N600 million. He added that the All Saints Church Road in Umunnamechi-Uli and Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital’s internal roads in Ihiala Local Government Area would be rehabilitated at the cost of N300 million. The council had also approved the rehabilitation of the dual-carriage way and service roads from Upper Iweka to Zik Roundabout in Onitsha at the cost of N3.5 billion. Other approvals, he said, were the reconstruction of Aguluezigbo roads at N1.8 billion and St. Michael’s Church Road in Ndikelionwu, Orumba North Local Government Area at the cost of N136 million. http://dailypost.com.ng/2013/11/26/anambra-government-approves-construction-new-government-house-governors-lodge/ |

Why was this man hoarding all these funds at the expense of Anambra development? Why the rush in awarding contracts in this late hour? The gum-handed governor has suddenly learnt loose-handededness from Rochas. Wait oo, do governors still collect commission from award of contracts? Just asking |

Misplaced priorities. The people will be poorer for it. Better to spend that money building infrastructures in onithsha and other commercial cities that will creat wealth. 1 Like |

Onitsha is presently getting the required attention on infrastructure. Have you been to Head Bridge, Upper Iweka and Nkpo flyover recently? There are over 3 pedestrian bridges construction ongoing presently in Onitsha. Even more projects has been approved for Onitsha in this phase. 1 Like |

Nnewi1stSon: Nna enh is Obi a Magician? Where did he suddenly get all the money he's spending? Anyways better late than never, they say . Obi saved and invested a lot of money which I think it has yielded so much interest that he is now using to re-invest in Anambra. Don't forget that Obi is a core administrator who built his companies from the scratch. |

Where is all these money coming from. I thought Obi said there was no money. I heard him lamenting in Asaba that he has not built a new government house and will manage the one at Anambra's disposal because the state is not as rich as Delta it's neighbor. All of a sudden, money is been spent with reckless abandon. 1 Like |

I'm sure you are among the type complaining that Awka is a village, anambra is so disorganized and so on. Now the man wants to modernise things a little and you are complaining again |

Where is all these money (cool cash) coming from? Finally, he has decided to build the Awka section of Enugu-Onitsha road. It was a major issue at the debates leading to the gubernatorial election. Good news but I wonder how that will work since FG is still on the road. I'm also glad that with Obiano as governor elect, atleast wherever Peter Obi stops, he'll continue from there. Nothing kills developing countries more than policies inconsistency and lack of continuity. It is worse or atleast as bad as corruption. At the federal level, there are currently more than 17,000 abandoned projects. 5 Likes |

Thats the second main reason why i dont want ngige near the govt house. Cos aside from his being desperate, he probably would abandon all of obi's ongoing projects and go on a wild goose chase. Should obiano maintain this tempo after being sworn, the face of anambra would change. 1 Like |

It is only under APGA or Peter Obi that you get projects at unbeatable prices. If these projects were in any of the Tinubu controlled states, a single road project would have taken up the TOTAL funds for ALL these projects. 6 Likes |

Zona.com:Governments generally are consumers. The people produce. That is why American state capitals are almost never in big productive centers. New York State capital is in Albany. Texas in Austin. California in Sacramento. Florida in Tallahassee. Illinois in Springfield. Pennsylvania in Harrisburg. All these states have great cities like New York, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Chicago, Philadelphia etc but deliberately take the state capitals to 'Villages' so as not to distract the real creators of wealth -the people. We still do not understand governance in this country so our style of governance is wasteful and destructive to real progress and prosperity. Government monuments do not creat wealth. They require high maintenance which poor countries can ill afford. This is why there is a correlation between state creation and the growth of poverty in Nigeria. 30 % in poverty in 1970 with 12 states and 68.3 % in 2013 with 36 states and a federal capital that is a burden. If you want to know why we have no electricity, high speed trains and super highways, look no further than state creation. Having said all that I must however acknowledge Peter Obi to be one of the prudent few in our public space. |
