IBADAN – The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said the threat by the Federal Government to sack university lecturers would not only fail but also worsen the situation and “another long path to make the strike linger more than necessary.” With the threat, ASUU said it was evident now that the Federal government was not ready to implement any resolutions it reached with the union. “It is a pity if the federal government is not willing to perfect the resolutions reached with union. This is why we find it difficult to trust our leaders by their words. How can someone be threatening to sack lecturers when universities are already short-staffed by almost 60,000. As much as I want schools reopened, I don't think this move is a good one. It would have been better to hijack the ASUU leaders, torture them to the point where they will call off & then make them know that any attempt to go on strike will lead to  That's how 'force' should be applied in this case IMO. This sack of a thing is not just feasible. |

Our universities are already under staffed. If the striking lecturers are sacked, where will the new ones come from? Do they think that university is primary school? Besides, we are not in a military era. Our democratically elected leaders do not even know what democracy really is. |

in the ranks of assu are betrayals, some lecturers will resume especially those from university that voted for discontinuing the strike. don't be surprised if lecturers from state owned university start putting up application in vacant position in federal university. this is Nigeria |
