NETWORK QUALITY: NCC receives 50,000 Complaints from Subcribers Daily by darea18: 11:02pm On Dec 05, 2013 |
Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) yesterday said since telecoms network quality deteriorated in the country a month ago, it now receives 50,000 complaints daily from aggrieved subscribers. Therehave been a lot of drop calls and undelivered text messages due to poor quality of services being rendered by the operators in the last one month. ButNCC yesterday threatened to sanction telecommunications service providers over poor quality of service, drop calls and unsolicited text messages sent to subscribers. Speakingat the fourth quarter meeting of the Industry Consumer Advisory Forum (ICAF) in Abuja, NCC’s Executive Commissioner in charge of Stakeholder Management, Okechukwu Itanyi, said operators should eaither address the nagging issues of poor quality of service, drop calls and unsolicited short message service(sms) or face sanctions. “We have done it before. We are going to do it again, if operators fail to meet our KPIs. Today, there is a paradigm shift from mere service provision to ensuring that consumer satisfaction ranks highest in our priorities in the provision of ICT goods and services,” he said. Also speaking, Director, Consumer Affairs Bureau, Maryam Bayi, said the NCC receives about 50,000 complaints daily from its automated call centres from aggrieved subscribers over poor quality of service, drop calls and unsolicited text messages sent by operators. Bayisaid already, operators had been invited for a meeting with the commission where they had been told to stop dispatching unsolicited sms, warning that operators would be sanctioned for failure to comply with the directive. Aspart of pragmatic steps taken by the commission to ensure improved quality of service, the Director of Consumer Affairs Bureau said NCC has set up Quality of Service Unit in the commission to receive consumers’ complaints and protect their interests. Bayi, who just assumed office a fortnight ago, called on subscribers to use the medium to express their concerns and challenges for quick and timely responses. Shepointed out that NCC initiated Number Portability for subscribers in order to promote competition among service operators as well as address the issue of poor quality service in Nigeria. |
