Dear God, This is my guy, my friend, my broda, whom I love and this is my prayer for him. Help him live his life to the fullest. Please promote him and cause him to excel above his expectations. Help him to shine in the darkest places where it is impossible to love. Protect him at all times, lift him up when he needs you the most and let him know when he walks with you, he will always be safe. I Love You my Guy!

A fresh test to Nigeria's sovereign status is afoot as Movement for New Nigeria has stated its intention to challenge the legality of the 1914 Amalgamation ordinance which gave birth to the Nigerian state.
The amalgamation ordinance is expected to expire on December 31, 2013, as MNN is set to take a legal action to ensure that a new union treaty was negotiated and entered into by the various nationalities that make up the country known as Nigeria.https://m.facebook.com/EmytexOnyomacom/?refid=8&_ft_=qid.5956124965777313384%3Amf_story_key.2331326998625701986#search

Is "Chika and the river" not an animation? Nollywood has done a couple of animations but there's room for improvement.

We are not talking about 70 in 1 DVD cartoon fans. We are talking watching animations at the Cinemas. Fact is; Nigerians DON'T watch animations at the cinemas. That's the reason all animations don't get much screening times. And they don't spend much time at Nigerian cinemas before they are yanked out. Simply because.....Nigerians are not animation audience. The only time animations will probably gross more is during Children's day when parents want to treat their kids right! grin.

Toonfreak: Guy,u are so wrong! Doing an nollywood animation doesn't necessary mean u have to be like hollywood by copying their style. Am so passionate about animation and me and my friends are working on an animation project based on Nigerian history like independent, civil war etc.
Goodluck!

speedyboi: See kweshion.

Fact is they shouldn't bother! Why? Because Nigerians are not animation type of people. I for one can't imagine myself spending my cash to go see a cartoon at the cinema. I'm just not a fan. Other Nigerians think cartoons are for kids. So it's not a good idea for the business aspect.

That's the same reason bollywood doesn't make animations. It just doesn't make sense to make things that you've got no audience for.

I kind of disagree. I do believe there are many nigerians that would watch animations with nigerian humour. A lot of nigerians already watch western animations such as The Simpsons, South Park and Family guy.

I know of a nigerian guy in the west who does nigerian comics and made a lot of money while I was in university. There is an audience, a big one but many nigerians have your type of mentality (esp. parents) and discourage those who do like it, who then keep their opinions to themselves for fear of being seen as childish.

Nigerians can adapt to many things and Im sure animations can be one of them if done properly.

If you say you don't like animations, you've not seen Japanese animations. If nollywood can make good matured cartoons, I'll gladly watch. only God knows how much I've spent on just "Naruto" alone cool

I'm not discouraging any one. I don't watch cartoons (though I used to watch as a kid). But at the same time I don't see people who watch them as being childish. I was only stating what most Nigerians think about animations. And it is a fact that Animations (Hollywood animations) gross next to nothing in Nigerian cinemas. Anyone who wants to go into feature length animations....well......maybe the seats will pay him back!

TV animations are already in existence in Nigeria (even since the days of 'tales by moonlight'). And there are lots of shorts Nigerian comics everywhere. So I don't think the OP is referring to those. He is talking about feature length animations which is not a good Idea in Nigeria.
Re: Can Nollywood Ever Make Cartoons by dabossman(m): 5:14pm On Dec 11, 2013
It's obvious a lot of people that are commenting don't know the technicalities that goes into producing a feature length animated movie, and that includes the OP.

If you were even talking 2D, I would say maybe even though it has its own challenges, but photoreal 3D is another cup of tea. It is a capital intensive venture (yes, OP it's not a chicken change project) and even more developed countries in Europe are beginning to outsource their animation work to Asian countries (China, Japan, Singapore) because of the cost involved.

We live in a country where steady power is a myth. The endless days required to render an animated movie frame by frame requires uninterrupted power. Now how much do you think you will spend on diesel, petrol or inverters if you where to do that here? Another factor is that we don't even have enough manpower with the know-how to do the job. Just visit Aptech to find out how much their animation course cost and you'll know it's not something many can afford. And even they don't teach something tangible in my opinion. That simply means you have to go abroad and spend a fortune to train as an animator.

If you now go surmount all these challenges and find a wealthy investor, how do you make the returns on your investment? Even the best of our cinemas cannot guarantee a good return, not to talk of DVD sales. Most animators I know do it for the passion, but cannot clearly and boldly chart a course as to how to make megabucks from it. That's the simple truth.

Here are some animated stuff done by Nigerians:
3D

and for 2D

One thing you have to understand from Speedy's point is 'type of audience' - yes we have a TV animation audience, a comic book audience and so on. However, even for regular real-life films we DON'T have that much of a 'CINEMA' audience; talkless of asking people to PAY money to watch a cartoon at the cinema. There are very, very different audiences; that is a major factor I believe you are missing at the moment.

I dont quite understand...
The op talked about nollywood animations, he didnt say anything about going to a movie theatre or maybe I misread.

Nigerian movies do 'well' without theatres so why cant we try to make animation movies that can be sold as a home movie? Many nigerians back home, in the west and even Caribbeans watch nigerian movies. With a good quality animation Nigerian movie, I believe there is an audience (maybe not the funds)

The key word there is 'Nollywood' - that simply means feature lenght films - not TV, not Web... but what in reality will end up in the cinema.

There are various topics here that show we don't spend much money at the cinemas. It will be even harder to 'sell' an animation. We can be sentimental but filmmaking is still a 'business'.
Do 'Nigerian' movies really do 'well' without the cinemas? Maybe for 'pirates'.

I see ur point. I guess before going into animation the nigerian film industry would need to work on a lot of things.

lol...did i? I don talk my own. Instead of coming to hurt our eyes with some shiitty stuffs, they should just leave animations for now! Animations will not be missed. Until that day Nigerians will crave for animations, they can relax body.
i beg to disagree. I dont know how your childhood was but are you telling me you didnt enjoy cartoon when you were a kid? And who says cartoons are only for kids? I for one am a cartoon freak irrespective of the age. Technology wise we dont have what it takes to produce a 2-dimensional cartoon talkless of a world class own!
Re: Can Nollywood Ever Make Cartoons by Nobody: 5:59pm On Dec 11, 2013
eventually, quality animated films will be created, just not now......the average nigerian animator(example,me)faces great problems to create SECONDS of animated content, much less minutes or hours...and whats worse,we dont even get buck for it.im just animating because of the passion i have, and besides im still learning...so until issues like audience, power, skilled animators, good quality software and other things like that are adressed,no good animation like death note, naruto or avatar...but eventually,it will happen-it will just take a long time.
