A 40-year-old man was on Wednesday killed by a man suspected to be an armed robber. The incident, which occurred in the afternoon at the Mobil Petrol Station bus stop near the University of Ibadan main gate along Mokola/Ojoo expressway led to pandemonium in the area. According to a witness, the victim rode on a commercial motorcycle, okada, when his assailant caught up with him and shot him at point blank. It was later gathered that the deceased was coming from Ojoo end of the town with an unspecified amount of money which he had collected from a bank to purchase a vehicle. The witness said the deceased had earlier gone to a car dealer to choose the brand of vehicle to buy. He said an agreement was reached on the exact amount to be paid before the victim went to the bank to withdraw the money. Unknown to him, he was being trailed by the assailant, who was also a passenger on another motorcycle. The killer caught up with him at the bus stop, shot him, took his bag, and crossed to the other side to join his waiting bike. The Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo, Olabisi Okuwobi-Ilobanafor, confirmed the incident. According to her, as soon as police officers at the Sango Division heard the gun shot, they rushed to the scene. They met the victim dead.
The police spokesperson said the officers pursued the suspects but could not get them because they succeeded in escaping through a crowd along the way. She, however, warned that it was too early to conclude that the case was armed robbery.
“We are still investigating. We don’t know yet whether it is robbery or assassination,” she said.

Hey yah! Why not do cashless transaction or better still online money transfer to the dealers account. We need to imbibe the culture of cashless society..

RIP

As for the robbers, their waterloo is near.
