Question: Did God Fulfil His Covenant With King Ahaz? (Virgin Birth) by harbiola1(m): 9:57am On Dec 14, 2013 |
Isaiah 7:1-16 are the verses of the book of Isaiah in which Prophet Isaiah, addressing King Ahaz of Judah, promising the King Ahaz that God will destroy his enemies; as a sign that his Prophecy is a true one, Isaiah predicts that a Almah will shortly give birth to a child whose name will be Immanuel "God with us". And that the threat from the enemy Kings will be ended before the child grows up. HISTORICAL CONTEXT. In the mid-8th Century BCE, the kingdom of Isreal (called Ephraim in Isaiah) and its ally Aram-damascus (or Syria) besieged Jerusalem to force King Ahaz of Judah into joining a coalition against Assyria, the aggresive "great power" to the North-East. Ahaz turned to Assyria itself for help, but although the Assyrians destroyed Syria and Ephraim, Judah became Assyrian vassal. The history Isaiah was a Prophet in jerusalem during the reign of Ahaz and Hezekiah. The prophecy in these verses was delivered during the Joint Ephraimite-Syrian siege, but was probably written down during the Assyrian siege in the time of Ahaz and then revised again when Judah came into conflict with Babylon. Isaiah 7:1-10. Judah is faced with invasion by its Northern neighbours, Isreal (also called Ephraim) and Aram-Damascus(Syria). But God instructs the Prophet Isaiah to tell King Ahaz that God will destroy Judah's enemy (Isaiah 7:1-10); When Ahaz was king of Judah, Rezin, king of Syria and Pekah was king of Isreal, marched on Jerusalem, they were unable to prevail against it. When the House of David was told that Syria had allied itself with Ephraim, their hearts and the hearts of their people trembled. But the Lord said to Isaiah, "God out to meet Ahaz, you and Shearjushub your Son. and say to him, "Be firm and keep calm; The lord has said, "It will not happen". The Prophecy - Isaiah 7:11-16: Isaiah:Prophet Isaiah approach king Ahaz to deliver God's message. Isaiah:Isaiah delivers God's message to Ahaz and tells him to ask for a sign to confirm that this is a true Prophecy. King Ahaz:Ahaz refuses saying he will not test God. Isaiah:Isaiah replied that Ahaz will have a sign whether he asks for it or not. Isaiah: And Isaiah said the SIGN will be the birth of a child by a VIRGIN, and she shall call his name IMMANUEL "God is with Us". First Sign would be the birth of a child by a Virgin whom will name her child Immanuel. Isaiah:Second sign was that the child would be eating Curds and Honey till he is matured. Isaiah: By the time the Infant (i.e Immanuel) learns to reject the bad and choose the good (i.e Before the child reach puberty). Isreal and Syria the opponent of King Ahaz will be destroyed. Your rudeness is a thing that requires fasting and prayer. Honestly, what you people need is a Bible study teacher right beside you not over internet study. But just let me enlighten your knowledge. The chapter you're talking about verse 1-16 is devided into three parts. 1) verse 1-9 were talking about a coup planning by some kings in fighting against king Ahaz or simply Judah. God's message to king Ahaz is very straight forward, in verse 7 God told king Ahaz through Prophet Isaiah that their counsel/plan will never work verse 7: NASB:thus says the Lord God: “It shall not stand nor shall it come to pass. NIV:Yet this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “‘It will not take place, it will not happen, So God has said it shall not stand or takes place. 2) Verse 10-12 according to verse 7 God has already told king Ahaz that their plan won't work but for king Ahaz to know that God had spoken and it will come to pass. God said king Ahaz should ask for a sign but king Ahaz as a wise one who knows the sovereignty of God he decided not to doubt nor tempt God. 3) Where you got it wrong is because "sign" appeared in verse 11&14. Verse 13-17 is another part. Here the message has been shifted from king Ahaz now for the whole house of David, Judah is the house in which the Messiah will come, now these people have been waiting to a point that they are too anxious for the Messiah to come. verse 13 really elaborates this point NASB:Then he said, “Listen now, O house of David! Is it too slight a thing for you to try the patience of men, that you will try the patience of my God as well? NIV:Then Isaiah said, “Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of humans? Will you try the patience of my God also? First, this message is for the whole House of David who are waiting for a Messiah not for king Ahaz only. Then verse 14 stated that God Himself will give them a sign when the Messiah will come. Only if you can remove the wrong glass you put on then you can see it. The message of the sign of a virgin given birth does not in any way connected with the plan of those kings because God has already spoken that it won't take place. Beside mind the way you use the word "Holyspirit" for your own good. And I don't know the essence of open this thread, is it that Jesus was not born by a virgin or you just find the prophecy too hard to comprehend like Muhammad? Shalom! 40 Likes |

Wow wow! Emusan really stands out here on religion section. Others are just seeing and ignoring. Emusan: Your rudeness is a thing that requires fasting and prayer. I know what you mean here, but learn how to respect what others revere before admonishing others on the same basis. Emusan:You did a good work here, but i hope u don't think that u're dealing with sheep? Who is chapter 15-16 talking about because u stopped at 14? You have to address 15 and 16, then i'll remove my cap for you. SALAM! |

harbiola1: I'm not but I do know I'm dealing with a slave. Who is The verses are still talking about the Child. Have it in mind that none of the verse(15-16) is referring to the war which God has declared nought! NIV: "He will eat curds and honey at the time He knows enough to refuse evil and choose good. 16 For before the boy will know enough to refuse evil and choose good, the land whose two kings you dread will be forsaken." This is a prophecy for house of Judah about trials to come upon Assyria & Ephraim including Judah itself by adding verse 17 shortly after the birth of the Child. then i'll remove my cap for you. You don't need to but just get everlasting life in you which is Jesus Christ by believing that He has come and pay the ransom. SALAM! Shalom! 14 Likes |
