Re: Your Car Mpg by Nobody: 7:10pm On Aug 04, 2008 |
icemann: It's a popular misconception, that a larger engine will be thirstier. A smaller engine in a relatively heavy car, will not be economical, lack of easy cruising ability, means the throttle spends more time at WOT, before backing off. That kind of driving produces unfavourable MPG figures, as the smaller engine is working less efficiently to shift a heavy car, than a larger, more powerful one would. |
Re: Your Car Mpg by Nobody: 7:15pm On Aug 04, 2008 |
Kashif: Another misconception. A new, or low mileage engine has to overcome more friction to work. More friction means more effort to do any useful work. The same reason new engines do not develop maximum power. On the other hand, a well maintained, high mileage unit will be more free revving, and have less internal friction. So, it will be more economical than a new, stiff one, and produce the factory power figures. It's not unusual for a well run-in motor to exceed the OEM factory power / performance figures. |

the thing is, u really cant say,, the whole thing is an approximation today your car can do 2mpg better than or worse than the previous day, it comes down to your driving style, , having said that, asian cars a more fuel economical than any other manufacturer, yaris is godlike when it comes to fuel economy, but an average asian car will give up up to 35mpg and more, my car does less, somewhere around 23mpg city and 30mpg highway(4runner) |
