I'm so grateful to TeHN for making me a part of their volunteer team during last year's charity flight... Here it is, My Birthday is on the 26th of this wonderful month...I've decided to set-up a mini charity drive in Port-harcourt city//rivers state.... The purpose of this thread is to get suggestions on how to go aboutt it (especially from the TeHN planning committee).... I'll also appreciate a list of homes for those that stay in port-harcourt, please if you are aware of any charity home around you , please inform me..Thanks NOTE: I'm not asking for donations from anyone but if you're my friend and you wish to give me a birthday gift, please convert it to items for the home....Thanks R231, I've not gotten a reply from you about that issue... 1 Like |

Wow . . . . Good one Dutchess. Happy birthday in advance. You can get ideas from your past experience with us on the charity flight. Please whatever you do, concentrate on the children and try to avoid giving them items that can be taken away by the staff! Good luck and weldone.  |

I feel you could decide on what to buy and what not to as a woman,as its not so mandatory you ask to be provided with a list of items of what they need. Its of immense importance that you have an estimated population or headcount of the children there. I dont reside in Porthacourt though,will provide the little information i can gather. Nice initiative btw,will get back to you on those items that are so indispensable and highly importance.......all the best as you go about it. |

I feel this could help - Food stuffs/Food items: Food items or food stuffs as nutrition is of immense importance could be purchased. Money : One of the easiest things to donate is money. This allows the home to decide what is most important to the children under their care and makes sure they get exactly what is needed at each time. Shoes and Clothings: Another commonly needed item is clothings,this includes shirts,pants,socks you name it, they most likely need it. Since most in the home are still growing,the clothing they receive is quickly outgrown. This means clothings of all sizes are accepted and large clothing is preferred. games and toys: One of the best things to donate is toys and games. Many of the kids there go without this as they are not seen as necessities,but they can occupy a child's mind and help them learn. I hope it assists a little in the longrun. 1 Like |

At first sight, I knew this girl would go places! Ayam impressed Duchess and like Cdamsel, you have my moral support, 100% To your question, do not ask them for a list except you intend breaking into a bank safe or breaking their hearts. (I am thinking, that as a student, you are not as rich as TeHN ).So, on first contact, ask to see the admin and declare your intentions, casually ask what they need most. Use your eyes and cursorily survey to know what you can give to them that is needful. Whatever you want to give, I want to advice, do not give them liquid cash! Thank you all for your awesome support.... All is set for the Party of the year!!!!  The three homes are: 1.) Saviours-charity orphanage, rumuokoro..... 2.) Global foundation orphanage, nkpolu..along east-west road.. 3.) All in port-harcourt, rivers state.. It's time for proper planning and shopping.. Goodnews..... 1. I'm so excited... 2. I've got the zeal.... 3. I've got you all andd definitely I'm grateful Not so good news... 1. I'm so over budget 2. Birthday cakes are freaking expensive and I've got to get three.. 3. Cdamsel does not want to come.. God is in control....
