Yes but but in developed countries tankers should not go through densely populated areas. This was the point that Fashola made

Fact is if there is a petrol station in any densely populated area, petrol tankers will still be needed to go to those densely populated areas to offload their products to the petrol stations.

I feel his message should have been a simple condolence, and if he was going to rightfully assign blame to others, then he should also have stated things that he could do to reduce the frequency of such occurances, like more efficient road user management, for instance.

As he said, everybody should take responsibility.

This is just unreal, a tanker has an accident on the roads of your state. You blame NNPC, railways, and mama Sola, and the Federal government. No where, does your state of Lagos claim any responsibility for an accident that happened in your domain. angry angry angry angry angry angry

Do you know APAPA -OSHODI express way?

Lagos asked for restrictions of tankers and container trucks to certain period of the day......FG overruled the state government on Fed roads.

There are safety norms in developed countries, a petrol station should not be in any densely populated area. According to the Petroleum Act 1934, a petrol pump should be situated where human habitation is comparatively very low and it should have a boundary wall of minimum six feet in height.

So how would petrol stations in densely populated areas get their supply?

With jerry cans?

Rubbish as usual, what has government giving control to Lagos got to do with an accident. You with your one billion percent knowledge, should tell your saint of a gov. To accept responsibility for an accident in his state and pipe down.

Not to deviate from the topic, but who gets the blame for the indiscriminate siting of petrol stations?

The FG's DPR who issues license to every one or the state agencies incharge of building control.

Mr man have u ever been to Apapa or tincan?? Have u seen the amount of tankers and container trucks on that road loading and going to all parts of Nigeria If you have seen this, im sure you will agree that having a railway line going from apapa can save a lot of accidents on our roads and yes!!! perhaps those 15 people would still be alive today.

Fashola is right on this one

True, true, however we do not have the "Petroleum Act" in Nigeria (or maybe we do, dunno). What we do have in Nigeria is some stations located in densely populated areas that MUST receive their products via tankers.

I still maintain that there was no need to pass blame, without also blaming yourself.

Still the exhibition of shortage on knowledge of the issues and the background of what led the governor in making the statement.

If the accident occurred on Awolowo road in Ikeja.....the LASG would take the blame. The Apapa -Oshodi stretch of the road starting right from Creek road where Folawiyo tank farm is located down to Oshodi is not within the purview .....so LASTMA guys are always not welcome on that road....the tanker drivers always claim they are on FG roads.

Stop commenting on issues you know absolutely nothing about....it makes you sound really foolish.

The FG should organise a vote for the immediate implementation of the Petroleum Act 1934 in 100% of Nigeria to protect the population.
The Petroleum Act exist since 1934 and we are in 2014. Nigeria is 80 years late on this Act

The foool here is a guy not able to separate politics from an accident. Spin and dive all you want, blaming NNPC, Railways and the federal government is simply pathetic. Tell your gov. it was a damn accident. Due to a speeding Tanker driver. Probably delivering petrol to some local stations in Lagos. Repeat, it was an accident, don't play politics with it. You people are just too petty.

Developed country this, Safety act that! Again all of you experts on administration and planning. Please explain the train crash that killed 100's if not 1000's in Canada. The train carried fuel or flammable liquids. Explain the rail accident that killed scores in Spain. A tragedy a tragedy it may have been avoided but I'm yet to here sufficient excuse for backing Fashola on this. The incident in Canada occurred when a train passed through a City. Abi the City no be 'densely' populated? Some people are great footballers until they get to the field to play. I hope one day you get positions of authority so we can see your ingenuity.

Yes...an accident...which is completely preventable if things have been done properly.

If the FG have agreed to restrict movement of combustible petroleum product to certain period of the day....maybe...just maybe the casualties would have been kept at the tanker driver and other occupants.

You see politics......we see common sense...which many of you and the FG lacks. No wonder many people see the FG as clueless on many issues affecting the country.

Techmogul: A governor can't explain what happened to Sunburn Yacht worth 8bn naira and insists a single dollar of tax payers money is important. Cannot explain buying lekki toll and from LCC and it's attending debts. GOD save us from hypocrites. Easy to point at a speck with a log right in your face. Politicising a tragedy for popularity. FG has not lived up to expectations by any standard true! But people lost lives, some respect to the family of the departed would have been a more appreciated response

Shut up.....

What is the issue with pointing out shortcomings of government ...if only to prevent re occurrence of such calamity...?

What exactly do you expect the state government to do? Keep silent as if nothing happened?

Guess who put off the fire and those that evacuated the dead and wounded.....the JB fire service and LASG officials.

The FG officials.....like FERMA and NEMA were no where on ground.

You lot are simply irritants and pathetic to put it mildly

Ikengawo: A rail system which GEJ was the first president to revive from the grave since 1980 is what Fashola is using to blame him for the countries dead rail systems?

You know what's more pathetic than than a giant burial for patience jonathan's mother? using the death of nigerians are a political tool.
respect for fashola revoked.

Error?
Those who put money in the rail sector are
Abacha (awarded the initial rail rehabilitation contract to the Chinese )
OBJ(develop the nigeria rail blueprint and expanded the scope of the initial contract after a review)
Yaradua(continued with OBJ's work)

JONADUH IS SIMPLY COMMISSIONING OTHER PEOPLE'S WORK

He is actually blaming GEJ for not building a rail system in 3 years that will ensure fuel is taking to all Lagos filling stations by rail. Fashola is a foolish clown! No sense at all grin grin grin grin grin grin
