Former Nigeria International, Dosu Joseph says the FIFA U20 World Cup is the perfect stage for Junior International Kelechi Iheanacho to prove he’s deserving of a call up to the Super Eagles.

The Manu Garba and Nduka Ugbade Coaching crew will attempt to emerge as the first coaches to lead the Flying Eagles to a World title and Dosu Joseph believes its achievable.

He said: ” I think those boys have done well for themselves coming through the ranks, they have the chance of winning the championship if they can come together as a team.

” Iheanacho’s impact could be important, he’s done well on those rare occassions where he played for Man City and this is his opportunity to prove the calls for his promotion to the Super Eagles is justifiable.”

” For me the team is in the right hands with Manu [Garba] and Ugbade as handlers , I think they’ll do well,”the Olympic Gold medal-winner told www.footballlive.ng

Former National team Coach, James Peters has predicted the quality of the Flying Eagles is certain to get them to the final of the World Cup in New Zealand. Manu Garba and his team are billed to camp in Germany for about 3 weeks before heading out out for the South Pacific Island-nation where they open the campaign against the likes of Brazil, North Korea and Hungary in Group E. In a chat with www.footballlive.ng Peters expressed his delight with the progress of the team, the preparation and quality of the Coaches. ” With the way our are coming through the ranks from the U17 and coupled with the preparation the NFF has planned out for them, they’ll get to the final. He said: ” They’ve been doing well and I urge them not to rest on their oars but to prepare more for the World Cup, this is a bigger stage and should not be complacent. Keep the pace of the development both the players and Coaches.”

If I am honest with you bro, I see a very good box to box midfielder in Kelechi. Not the modern day running box to box midfielder but like Pirlo. You know, deep lying midfielder - Pirlo and Scholes type.

Definitely, Nacho can play as a box to box midfielder. He has the strength and pace to make the bursting runs when there is a gap in the midfield of the opponent.

But, his best talent must be the most developed. He might be the best finisher of his set. That is how he can be in the class of Neymar, Messi, Suarez, Aguero and CR7.

the boy is a better midfielder than Striker. See, we no dey find striker, we get those ones. We NEED a PERFECT 10 and Kelechi is probably the closest we'll get to that anytime soon. Is James Rodriguez not an AM? Does he not score goals? Isn't he better than Suarez? And we have someone that has same talent as Rodriguez if not more and you think he's better as a striker?

Too much English no good, Man City people don't know best, those people are just looking for some black mule to do their bidding, if something something happen along the way, na so we go gather here in 10 years dey talk of the boy in his heydays like we do with Mikel.

If Manu saw him and all his gifts and thought him best for AM, then I trust his judgment better than I do some white guys in Europe

I totally agreed with u, we have so many talents in that department playing him as a striker will limit is ability , if the goals are not coming , but as Am .he will play to his full potentials by creating opportunities for others .
Manu knows best .

Striking is his best quality.

"He already has the technique to flourish at the highest level and the only thing the more established players at City could have over him is experience.

"At his age, his finishing around the box puts him in a class of his own. He usually scores five goals during our training sessions.....Coach Manu Garba.

Just like the Scrimmage game Nacho played in America and scored four goals in a game. Or, the first game of the U17 World Cup against Mexico where Nacho scored four goals.

Nacho has the ability to bring in Fire power to our side. We have brilliant midfielders like Yahaya and Nwakali. I feel it is better to get the best scoring ability upfront to secure goals with the chances created.

By the way, James Rodriguez has not started playing football to be put in the same bracket as Suarez. Suarez is up there with Messi and CR7. One of the best finishers football has ever seen.

Youth Looks Good For Manchester City

For a club that is “ruining English football”, the Blues have some excellent young prospects coming through, with a strong Mancunian flavour.

The under-18s were unlucky to come up against an extremely powerful Chelsea team in the FA Youth Cup final – and six of their starting eleven are still eligible for the tournament next year.

This week’s second leg defeat at Stamford Bridge also saw the return of 18-year-old Nigerian wonder kid Kelechi Iheanacho who scored and looked dangerous whenever he was involved.

And those in the know at the academy say that the deeper you delve down the age groups, the stronger they seem to get.

Manu Happy With Iheanacho’s Return To Full Fitness

Flying Eagles coach Manu Garba has described Kelechi Iheanacho’s return to full fitness as ‘good news’ for his team, ahead of the FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand.

The Nigeria U20 coach was speaking after Iheanacho played all 90 minutes and made a scoring comeback in Manchester City’s 1-2 loss to Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup.

And he says that the 18-year-old’s return is ‘good news’ and a good development for his team as they continue their preparation for the U20 World Cup.

“Kelechi’s return is good news for us,” he said. “It is a good development for our team and it is something we are happy about because he is an important player for us.

“I am happy that he is back and his teammates are too, so we have to wait until he comes and then we take it up from there,” he posited.

The Manchester City starlet has suffered a recurrence of an ankle injury, which has kept him out of action for the better part of the year for City’s U18’s, but made an impressive goalscoring comeback in the FA Youth Cup final loss to Chelsea last weekend.

Asked if he isn’t concerned about Iheanacho’s overall fitness with the World Cup just around the corner, Manu had this to say.

“If he wasn’t fully fit he wouldn’t have played 90 minutes in a cup final. We still have to make our own assessments though and that can only be done when he comes,” he concluded.

Countdown to kick off - Only 30 days to FIFA U-20 World Cup

With 30 days to go, the anticipation is building in the lead up to the FIFA U-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015 kicking off on 30 May.

There’s news that visiting royal Prince Harry has a playing role in the pre-tournament build-up.

The sporting Prince has agreed to captain a team of five lucky footballers in a special mini football tournament inside Auckland’s The Cloud on Queen’s Wharf on 16 May.

The Prince will lead the young footballers in a five-a-side game against an All-Star team, later joining the players and volunteers for post-match refreshments.

The Cloud will be transformed with all the key ingredients of a football tournament. A mini-football pitch will be created, with volunteers to steward the crowd and children in the audience as fans of all the FIFA U-20 World Cup competing teams.

The tournament’s Local Organising Committee CEO Dave Beeche says there are plenty more thrills to come for football fans.

“In just a few weeks, some of world’s best emerging talent will be converging on New Zealand. Now that we know the make-up of most of the teams we can confirm that many of these players already have big price tags on their heads in the biggest clubs in Europe.

“Kiwis really shouldn’t miss the chance to see the next Messi crowned in our stadiums.”

The much-anticipated 52-match competition gets underway on 30 May with New Zealand taking on the Ukraine at Auckland’s North Harbour Stadium.

The tournament takes place at venues nationwide with matches also scheduled for Christchurch, Dunedin, Hamilton, New Plymouth, Wellington and Whangarei.

The FIFA U-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015 Final and the third and fourth place play-off take place at North Harbour Stadium on 20 June.

Real, United starlets make provisional Brazil squad

Manchester United playmaker Andreas Pereira and Real Madrid forward Jean Carlos have made Brazil’s 26-player provisional squad for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

However, there was no space for 17-year-old Fluminense midfielder Gerson, Corinthians boy wonder Malcom and Santos striker Gabriel, 18, as coach Alexandre Gallo opted for more experience following a forgettable campaign in the South American qualifiers. The 47-year-old will trim his party to 21 before heading out to Australia, where they will undergo their training camp, on 16 May.

Other interesting names in the squad are Marseille prospect Alef, Atletico Paranaense’s prolific attacking midfielder Marcos Guilherme and Fluminense trick machine Kenedy.

“We called up committed players who have experience representing their country and have their [careers] shaped,” explained Gallo. “We need players who are fully focused on our targets.”

Brazil will begin their New Zealand 2015 campaign against Nigeria on 1 June, before taking on Hungary and Korea DPR in Group E.

“Nigeria always cause us problems,” Gallo said. “They’re a strong team, technically good with good players. Hungary have a typically European style – direct football, tall players. North Korea don’t have very technical players, but they close you down a lot, they have speed and counter-attack intensely.”

Brazil have won five U-20 World Cups, one shy of record champions Argentina. A Seleção’s last triumph came in 2011, when a hat-trick from now-Chelsea ace Oscar propelled them to a 3-2 win over Portugal.

Flying Eagles Profile by FIFA.com

The road to New Zealand

Going into the 19th CAF African U-20 Championships, Nigeria were one of the clear favourites and the Flying Eagles lived up to their top billing. After just two matches, they had made sure of a place in the semi-finals and secured their ticket for the FIFA U-20 World Cup finals. They twice had to come from behind to draw their final group game 2-2 against Côte d'Ivoire, but that was the only blip on their record in Senegal. They then beat rivals Ghana 2-0 in the semi-finals and defeated the host Senegalese for the second time, having beaten them 3-1 in the opening game, in the championship match, winning their seventh African title.

Strengths and style
With 12 goals from five matches in Senegal, Nigeria proved themselves to be an attacking powerhouse. Six different players got onto the score sheet, with captain and defender Musa Mohammed surprisingly topping the scoring charts with four. Manu Garba's team is also capable of playing a patient game – as they did in the semis against Ghana – where the Black Satellites dominated much of the game, but the Nigerians bided their time and scored the goals. Garba's team should have more high-level experience in New Zealand as he'll be able to call on the likes of European based starlets Isaac Success, Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi.

The coach
Manu Garba knows what it is like to compete at the highest level. Two years ago, the was in charge of the Nigerian U-17 team that lost on penalties in the final of the African U-17 championship against Côte d'Ivoire. He went one better at the World Cup in the United Arab Emirates later that year, guiding his side to the title. He has taken many of the players from that team into his U-20 side.

FIFA U-20 World Cup record
- This is Nigeria's 11th appearance at the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
- The west Africans have thrice previously advanced to the semi-finals, finishing runners-up in 1989 and 2005 and third in 1985.
- The Flying Eagles failed just twice in their ten previous appearances to escape the group stage (1983 and 1987)

What they said
“This team is the future of Nigerian football. We have only two players from the Nigeria Premier League with the rest from academies, which is a good sign for the development of Nigerian football."
Manu Garba, Nigeria coach

Kiwi legends relishing U-20 showpiece

Just one short month now stands between New Zealand and the greatest football event the country has ever seen. The proximity of the FIFA U-20 World Cup, which has previously unveiled the likes of Maradona and Messi to a global audience, makes it all the more tantalising for Kiwis who have long championed the beautiful game.

Several of the most high-profile are proudly serving as official tournament ambassadors, and all can hardly wait for the action to begin. According to Wynton Rufer, Oceania’s Player of the Century, the competition represents a chance that simply must be grasped.

“It’s a phenomenal opportunity to be hosting a tournament like this,” said the former All Whites and Werder Bremen star , who helped lead New Zealand to their first FIFA World Cup™ in 1982. “The World Cup in South Africa definitely lifted the game to another level in New Zealand and since then we’ve had Wellington Phoenix and Auckland City doing well. The women’s side are top 20 in the world too, so this should help us build on what’s already been achieved.

“When I was asked to become an ambassador, I couldn’t say no. It was because of FIFA, and the U-17 World Cup being held here in 1999, that I came back to New Zealand. You want to be involved in these kind of events. You only need to look at all the fantastic teams coming – plus the big stars who’ve played in this before – to see that there’s a competition with incredible tradition coming to these shores.”

Ivan Vicelich knows better than most how special these tournaments can be. The 38-year-old is a veteran of no fewer than nine global finals, and his experiences at South Africa 2010, three FIFA Confederations Cups and five FIFA Club World Cups leave him in no doubt of the scale of this upcoming event.

“It’s absolutely huge,” said Vicelich, winner of the adidas Bronze Ball at the latest Club World Cup. “I heard that there will be 117 million people watching the games on TV, and that tells you all you need to know. I’m sure New Zealand is going to put on a great tournament. The preparation from FIFA has been massive – I’ve seen it first-hand in Auckland in this ambassador’s role – and these are exciting times for the country. The next Messi is likely to be playing in this tournament, so it’s a great chance for people to come out and watch a few future superstars.”

As a former team-mate of David Beckham’s at Los Angeles Galaxy, Andy Boyens knows all about superstars. And the big defender, who also turned out for Chivas USA and New York Red Bulls, believes his fellow countrymen have little concept of the standard of football that awaits them. “I think the quality is going to be on a different level to anything New Zealand has seen before,” he said. “People won’t be able to appreciate the scale of it all – not just the quality on the field but the fanaticism off it – until it finally gets underway.”

Like Boyens, Mark Paston’s first experience of a FIFA tournament was as a spectator at the 1999 U-17 World Cup. The Wellington Phoenix keeper, who kept goal for the All Whites at South Africa 2010, has fond memories of that well-attended event and is hopeful of the U-20 equivalent making an even bigger splash.

“The U-17s was fantastic and this should be every bit as good if not better,” said Paston. “It's another sign of where this country is going in terms of football. When I started, New Zealand only had amateur players and look at where we are now. This can be the next step forward. Hopefully we'll get people along to watch the U-20 games who haven't been to football before and get them hooked."

The tournament’s legacy is also uppermost in the thoughts of Ben Sigmund, Paston’s team-mate with both club and country. “My big hope is that it inspires kids to stay in the game,” said the centre-half, who starred at the U-17 event in 1999. “We have a real problem in New Zealand keeping kids in football when they go up to high school and hopefully this can help change that."

Aaron Scott, a veteran of New Zealand’s campaigns at the 2008 Olympics and 2009 Confederations Cup, believes the youthful nature of the participants will help achieve Sigmund’s goal. “The best thing about players at U-20 level is that they don’t play with the same ingrained caution and instinct to defend and be structured - you still have that impetuousness of youth,” said the 28-year-old. “I think there’s going to be plenty of flair and attacking play on show.”

The importance of putting on a show is of particular importance to Mike McGarry, who as well as being a regional ambassador and 54-times-capped international, has taken on the role of general manager at the southernmost of the competition’s seven venues, Dunedin.

"The ticket pricing has been designed to make it as easy as possible for families to go along,” he explained. “Your hope is that the young kids will see good football, fair football, and the best teams rising to the top. And hopefully New Zealand will be one of those teams!"

Former Nigeria midfielder Garba Lawal has disclosed that youngsters Kelechi Iheanacho and Isaac Success will play a big role in the Flying Eagles outing at the 2015 Fifa U20 World Cup in New Zealand. The duo were not part of the team’s victorious outing at the African Youth Championship in Senegal and with Manu Garba’s side paired against five-time champions Brazil, Hungary and Korea DPR, the former Levski Sofia midfielder feels they are needed to fortify the squad.

“[Iheanacho and Success] have been in this squad since the Golden Eaglets days, so I think they will be a good addition to the squad despite missing the AYC,” Lawal told Goal.

“In football, you need everybody. Sometimes, you have cases of injuries and you need to make a good substitution. So I don’t think it will be a bad idea taking them to New Zealand whether they are starters or not.”

The U20 World Cup title has eluded Nigeria since inception with the Flying Eagles losing in the final of 1989 (Saudi Arabia) and 2005 (Netherlands) editions as Lawal insists the team must be at their best to break the jinx.

“The U20 team have been doing great including coach Manu Garba and his crew. These are young lads that are eager to win trophies and achieve something,” he continued.

“We can only hope they continue in that stead and they should be reminded that the U20 World Cup is a different ball game entirely from the African Youth Championship.

“If they want to go far at the World Cup, they must win every games as they come and must give full concentration but with the caliber of players in the Flying Eagles squad, I am sure they will give a good account of themselves,” he continued.

Nigeria’s first game will be against Brazil at the Stadium Taranaki, New Plymouth on June 1, 2015.

I believe playing Nacho in any other role except as a striker will hinder his best quality which is finishing. Note, at Man City, Nacho trains everyday as a striker. Playing him in any other role will also hinder the impact of his training.

At the end, the most important prize is the World Youth Championship title. I believe Manu Garba will make the best choice for the team.

it's not compulsory he plays d same role 4 Nigeria and city look at messi he plays AM 4 Argentina and strike 4 barca and it has made him more creative

Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Emmanuel Ikpeme has revealed that federation is sparing no expenses to ensure the boys get quality preparations ahead of the FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand.
According to the federation’s scribe, the squad is now famous after its exploits in the United Arab Emirates, winning the U17 World Cup.

“Every country knows the flying eagles is the team to watch out for” He told to footballlive.ng.

Incidentally, Coach Manu Garba and Nduka Ugbade who are now with U20 team both ruled the dugout at the world stage in the U.A.E championship while positioning the team for greatness.

“The team is now in Germany for their training camp and believe me when I say that they will play nothing less than two to three friendly matches before they leave”

“We are doing this because we know that that team is the team that all participating country will be looking out for and that’s why we said the team should go to Germany so that they can get quality teams to play in friendly matches”

The coaching crew has been given a long stick to work with as 30 players were allowed to travel, in which nine will be dropped and the final 21-man squad will proceed to New Zealand, all in the bid to create competition in the team.
The Flying Eagles of Nigeria departed the shores of the country on Wednesday to arrive in Germany Thursday morning.

Nigeria U20 Germany trip shifted

The Nigeria Football Federation has revealed reasons for shifting the Flying Eagles trip to Germany but insists the team’s World Cup preparation remain intact

Nigeria Football Federation General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi says the Flying Eagles’ have been rescheduled owing to travel hitches.

Manu Garba’s team were billed to hit the European nation on Wednesday to continue preparations for the 2015 Fifa U20 World Cup.

Though a new date has not been set by the NFF, Sanusi assured that preparatory programmes for the African champions will not be disrupted in any way.

"The team will travel very soon but there is a slight challenge in the travel arrangement. The New Zealand visas will be switched in South Africa because we do not have New Zealand Embassy in Nigeria," Sanusi told local radio, Brila FM.

"So when, we went to South Africa to get New Zealand visas, the Embassy was on holidays and will resume on the 20th.

"Once we secure the visas we'll take them to the German Embassy for another round of validation process," he concluded.

Nigeria will face Brazil, Hungary and Korea DPR in the preliminaries of the World Cup in New Zealand.

Later you will see Pinnick saying he is applying scientific methods to our football preparations. Mtschew...bunch of losers!

I'm sure they've disrupted Manu Gaba's plans with their incompetencies.

I think that news is old. They said the embassy will resume on the 20th...surely they don't mean May 20th, that's 10 days to their first game, they must have meant April.

NFF is NOT that incompetent. I think they left yesterday

I think that news is old. They said the embassy will resume on the 20th...surely they don't mean May 20th, that's 10 days to their first game, they must have meant April.

NFF is NOT that incompetent. I think they left yesterday

They are leaving on Saturday

Iheanacho scored again today and also made an assist.

City EDS will play FC Porto in the International
Premier League Cup final after a thrilling 3-2
extra-time semi-final win over Leicester.
A poor first-half performance from the hosts
meant that Leicester deserved their 1-0 half-time
advantage given to them by Harry Panayiotou’s
spectacular volley.
However, a much improved City emerged after the
break, inspired in no small part by second half
substitute Kelechi Iheanacho, who levelled the
game after 57 minutes.
Panayiotou struck again, this time against the run
of play, five minutes later, scoring a goal which
for a long time looked like it would be enough to
set up a final meeting with FC Porto.
However, Jose Angel Pozo found a second City
equaliser with six minutes to go, running onto
Inheanacho’s through ball and slamming home
definitively.
That took the game to extra-time where the Blues
continued to dominate, getting their just rewards
after 107 minutes.
Kelechi’s fellow second half substitute Manu
Garcia had been another key contributor in City’s
improvement and so it was fitting that he should
score the winning goal, finishing emphatically
from Pozo’s cut-back.
That sets up a mouthwatering cup final against
the Portuguese giants and a shot at the first
piece of silverware in Patrick Vieira’s EDS reign.

Looks like Iheanacho has his work permit now, he is playing in official tournaments for the underage teams.

He scored a goal and gave an assist again yesterday. He might be given a shot with the first team next season.

He came off the bench and changed the game.

I see a forward line of

Simon moses, Awoniyi or Success , Iheanacho wrecking teams.

Manu has some real talents on his hand. I doubt simon moses will make it because of the time.

i would be sad if moses simon doesn't make it to the competition... but either way we will still bring bk the trophy yeah!!

moses simon if chosen will mostly play from the bench. he loves to take on player before making a pass. the flying eagles thrives on quick inter-change of split passes and sometimes long thrust. Simon will slow them a bit. loves to dribble. That is why success and iheanacho combination produce lot of goals.

simon wont slow game play. trust me.. he plays more like a ribery. n you know dat means lots of pace n trickery. . the best option on the left wing..
