It would be a beautiful thing if modernity brought about a complete end to herd mentality.

This is one of the reasons my mom couldn't live in lagos, this thing happen more in lagos than here in the east, where my brother live in festac, he doesn't know the name of his neighbor, life was more fun in olden days than now, when everybody comes out for moonlight play

Yea...to an extent! but it has really given rise to some anomalies which I may not mention here. However, modernity is also an imperative advancement!

This is the effect of modernization . Hardly do people feel bored like before. With modern gadget like cable tv (dstv) , laptop, smart phone computer games, internet and even nairaland etc, u may be so cosume that u will hardly feel people presence. Indirectly materialism is the major cause, everyone is busy chasing money nowadays. Ego and superiority is the order of the day.

It is not about Modern life .... It is the system of Government ..... Nigeria has tend towards Capitalism more than any other system though in textbooks .... Nigerian economy is tagged ''MIXED-ECONOMY'' but Reality .....it is Capitalism !!

It would have been difference if we Operate Communalism or Socialism though each comes with its merit and demerit as communists and socialists have been tagged to promote mediocrity while Capitalism enables Man to eat as far as your brain and Hands could carry you but One Man for Ihmself !!


In a Capitalist economy , it is one man for himself because the resources @ your disposal is not enough to cater for your folks talkless of thinking bout other folks .....

Then everybody start chasing running around chasing samething competitively !!

I lived in Benin city all along before I was posted to a village-like place in Ogun state, Ago iwoye. I found a lot of difference, the tall boys and girls would greet you any time they see you, they all address you as sir, brother, master, etc- yorubas have respect! And I love the people so much that I wanted to buy a land there.
Now I got a job in lagos- I took a house there. Ajah area. Everything is a lot different. Not even the smallest female child would greet you, no body helps a dying man, nobody cares about your car, flatscreen, inverter, and all that would jave invited a crowd to your house in ogun state.
I fell seriously ill one day, GTB atm was not working, I was shakking inside a danfo that was trapped in a hopeless traffic. I didn't have cash to buy drugs. That was when I knew that I would rather build my home in a place like Ibadan than a modern place like lagos. No help of any sort. The best any one could do was to describe a hospital for me. No cash, they hardly even believed me. The bus driver was harsh when it was time to comeout of his car. My neighbours don't interract. They are so cold. I thought to my self- if I died tonight, no onw would even know! When I was I sick in ogun state, my neighbours daughter nursed me. She made my meals and ran errands for me. What happened to the hearts of men that live in the city? Oh! Damn the city!

I remember growin up in Nigeria,it was all nice mehn, every night we would have a play with the neighbours kids, Our parent would sit outside the compound too sharing various stories of their day. Now im in the WESTERN world where you don't even get to see your neighbour let alone know his/her name and it pains me Africa is driving to this direction with the way we are throwing away our culture,I pray our leaders find a way to restore our land and culture. Im out.

To me, it is prosperity that leads to individualism because communality rises out of a necessity to share and depend on one another.
