Aggregating Two Wan Links From Same Isp, How Possible? by Sibrah: 1:25pm On Jul 07, 2014 |
I NEED SUGGESTIONS ON HOW WORKABLE IT IS TO AGGREGATE MULTIPLE WAN LINKS FROM SAME ISP. WHAT I AM TRYING TO ACHIEVE HERE IS'T THE NORMAL LOAD BALANCING/FAIL-OVER OF TWO LINKS, IT GOES BEYOND THE FAIL-OVER/LOAD BALANCING LEVEL TO AGGREGATING THE TWO WAN LINKS INTO A SINGLE LINK WHOSE TOTAL BANDWIDTH IS THE SUM ALL LINK BANDWIDTH AVAILABLE? I HAVE A CAPABLE CISCO ROUTER FOR THE TASK AHEAD BUT NEED TO KNOW HOW WORKABLE IT IS? I WANT ONE IP ADDRESS FOR BOTH LINKS. |

Yes, you can do that. You need to implement a multiplexing technique like TDM on both links. Search google, some guys in the states have implemented something close to this on wifi to achieve higher speed. |

Suggestions: - Layer 3 Ether Channel...i doubt if it works on WAN links - Find out about a device called Link Load Balancer - Using policy based routing on the links would mean using both links or a default route across both links would utilize both links too instead of combining them. |

Thanks.I will make out time to go check your ideas. Again Thanks alot. |

Naija, There are link aggregators made by so many companies. Instead of using policy based routing which may be complex and may never work, why not buy a link aggregator made by one of the experts in Link aggregating. If I may ask,why are you aggregating link from the same company? Brainstorm 07082375805, 08033737534 |

What i need is a channell aggregation method at the Layer2 and Layer3 of computer networking. Thanks for the effort. |

wirelessmaster: Naija,I have had a deep thought over the whole thing and it have finally concluded it either impossible or just too difficult to achieve for the purpose i planned to use it on. |

Link aggregation is limited to layer 2 and layer 3 network protocol suite i.e it would work accross wirless links, ethernet frames in LANS, ppp multiple links .Beyond, this level all you could get is failover/loadbalancing implementation. |

^^Really? |

Further research has confirmed layer 3 aggregation over third party network is best achieved with a load balancing and fail-over technology. Thanks for all contribution. |
