My Experience In The Cadaver Laboratory by Josh1000: 11:34pm On Jul 12, 2014
The college of medicine UNILAG
has a powerful Anatomy
department filled with great
Academicians.
Our Gross anatomy is very
important because thats where we
get to see the human body in full
so it's quite important. Our
weapons in the lab include God
first of all our brains, our dissecting
manuals, dissecting instruments
and Human Anatomy Atlas.
A typical day in the gross anatomy
laboratory where we get to dissect
the human body could be
frustrating or enjoyable.
Our Lab is large and we have
different groups, we are usually
welcomed with Formalin which has
an irritating smell and brings water
from your eyes.
On my table, we start by praying
for God's guidance. We follow our
dissecting manuals and then start
dissecting. I get frustrated when we
can't find a nerve, a vein or an
artery because this slows us down
so much!
but the joy in finding them is so
great!
our dissection makes us appreciate
the human body and see the
wonderful works of God.
We are sometimes lucky to find
someone to put us through
otherwise we follow the standard
Problem based learning for
dissection. My group members are
lusually too careful as if they once
knew the cadaver though I Try to
explain to them as the group
leader that he's dead and we need
to dissect fast which ar times lead
to arguments.
Some of us are usually excited to
sign attendance and leave
especially when we are frustrated
and we cant find what we are
supposed to, so we hurry to sign
attendance and leave.
The beauty of this is that the
dissection helps us to understand
what we read so we would help
the society health wise one day.
Our Cadaver has also helped in
contributing to knowledge that will
help save the live of many people!

When I was in 200l one of my anatomy lecturers who was a sadist made us write a theory exam in the cadaver dissecting room, with formalin and faint smell of rotting corpses smelling there grin there was absolutely no need for him to have done that but he went ahead with it because him bin dey beef us since and like I said before he is a sadist. Mr Ajene. That was his name.

Good luck @op, I hated dissection when I was in med school. Rarely went for it yet I got 68 in my Anat, the external examiner denied me my distinction when I mistakened the falx cerebri for the falx cerebelli. Though the mistake was rather out of phobia than ignorance.
