Thank u sir
Maple:

1. Fabricator price would depend on your location. N800/tray is a reasonable price within FCT.
2. Yes, you can use red sorghum too. Though its not widely established, however some believe that poultry & pigs utilize more energy from white sorghum than red sorghum, even though their starch contents are somewhat similar. As for cattle, this is of no concern.
thanks for the info. Sir

cattle fattening, practical steps

Cattle fattening is a processing on feeding a special diet and supplements to some selected bull under semi/intensive systems (feedlots) to encourage rapid weight gain. A bull in fattening will require roughly 3 percent (body weight of the bull) of forage/grass a day, a lot of water and supplements. The average daily weight gain of a Fulani bull on a grass fed ration is 0.5 to o.7 kg per day. When supplemented with grains it is 0.7 to 1kg per day.
Fencing/ housing
The bulls will only require a strong wooden fence; it should be located a little away from a residence because of smell from the dung and flies. It should also be located in a secure area. Dung should be collected daily and carefully disposed of, or used as manure.
Buying your bulls
The best time to buy your bulls is the peak of dry season, bulls of roughly a year old can be bought from state like, Niger state, taraba state, nasarawa state and up north. A year old bull can be bought for 25 thousand naira in some villages in the above mention state. Farmers sell off their bulls for fear of losing them due to drought/inadequate feeding during this period. The cost of transporting the bulls to your location varies but should not be more than 10,000 naira.

My next write up will be on silage making for bull fattening questions/coments will be welcome
pls do u organise practical trainning 4 intending farmer? Cos i want to engage in d cattle fattening and goat production especially niger or exotic goat. thanks

Maple:

Most would be glad if u share your infos here as many have done. Anyways, the use of hydroponic fodder should not diminish the importance of silage, which is a nutritious dry fodder with lots of fibres. Ruminants like cattles can not survive on hydroponic fodders alone, hence its important they are fed dry fodder or hay as well, perhaps even more. Hydroponic fodder should be used mostly as a feed supplement.

I completely agree with you there Maple, the main objective of fodder grown via hydroponics is to ensue that nutritious green can be supplied all year round regardless of seasonal changes and also to maximize every square inch available. Bear in mind that fodder grown via hydroponics require high quality seeds and loads of them too on a regular basis. What is the advantage of growing these seeds vis a vis feeding them to the aninmals directly as seen in grain fed cattle? well, you tend to get to increase the weight of the seeds between day 0 and day 8 by almost 700% meaning you will be able to deliver more DM per kg body weight as opposed to just feeding seeds alone.

Silage on the other hand ensures that you can trap as much freely available green and other feed sources/waste at a time when they are easily accessible i.e. peak cassava harvest, peak maize harvest etc i.e. ensures a timely storage of nutritious DM (dry matter) and CP (crude protein) in the time of plenty.
