There are many ways to go about this model. Seems you've chosen to scatter separate rock models around a base models. BTW, which software are you using? Use screen grab/save screenshot option instead

Tos87: Just thinkin...should have the same pose and background?I think the challenge is to model according to the 'pose'. Tho, A 'DaVinci Pose' should be okay IMO. BUT.... Since rigging is not part of the workflow for The Challenge. There will be some difficulty in achieving the original 'Lava man' pose. I need clarification from cgniyi and OKX ASAP... |

Re: 3d Modelling Challenge : Lava Man by eyeaye: 3:50pm On Aug 01, 2014 |
prof800: Yah i will thanks, it's zbrush 4r6. it's highly dependent on wacom or any other digital pen tablet since it's mainly for sculpting. |

2 more weeks to go. I only just found time to start work on mine and i was thinking to myself, "who's the idiott that came up with this idea" Just a reminder, I'm forgoing the prize money, but I'll still be posting my work. |
Re: 3d Modelling Challenge : Lava Man by cgniyi(m): 10:44pm On Aug 04, 2014 |
I'm also going with Zbrush on this one.Only started this night. So far, I've used a very common sculpting workflow. Similar to what eyeaye is doing - Zpheres used to build basic form and pose - Change zpheres to polygons - Using Move brush to further adjust the form Still looks messed up for now Just want get the base form first, then I'll extract thr rock layer from this

Re: 3d Modelling Challenge : Lava Man by cgniyi(m): 11:16pm On Aug 04, 2014 |
Adjusted the proportions, tried to make the pose more dynamic
|
Re: 3d Modelling Challenge : Lava Man by cgniyi(m): 12:15am On Aug 05, 2014 |
Probably shouldn't detail the base form so much since I'll be covering it with the rock layer. 12:13am, think I'll sleep now

Re: 3d Modelling Challenge : Lava Man by spywareczar(m): 10:57pm On Aug 05, 2014 |
Over 3million polygons , So far my system hangs lyk 4 times already had to forcefully shut it down with d power button, I think I'll just do it anyhow and submit, coz if I should subdivided the model again, it'll slow my system and it'll be hanging every damn minute |
Re: 3d Modelling Challenge : Lava Man by prof800(m): 10:34pm On Aug 06, 2014 |
wonderful job cgniyi.... I'll add your name to the list of contestants sir. @spywareczar, easy with your system. It has its life to live ooo.. |

Re: 3d Modelling Challenge : Lava Man by xothermik(m): 10:27pm On Aug 11, 2014 |
ok i noticed we are just a few days away from the end and dug deep to come up with something after work. there is no time to models traditionally in max so im starting in zbrush. i used to use z speres and s sketching a lot to make base models but this time i experimenting with dynamesh. (have been off 3d for a long time and quite rusty) i started from a sphere and worked my way to try and establish the form, volume and stance of the concept. the details at this stage were just to help me with the form as i still z remeshed everything to have a more workable topology. i plan to take it to max and work on some loops and edges before doing additional work and final detailing in zbrush. if i have time im going back to max to render. i dont think i will even bother model fingers ill just sculpt and texture the fist clenched and add loops where i need to.
