Been battling with my pc, i can only go as high as 4mil polys. Doing poly paing now and sampling materials.

Had mention four mills vertex....are u using hp Z1?
Or is zbrush just capable of handling such high polycount without impacting ur system?

The way things are going , the only winners will be the ones complete the challenge undecided
Re: 3d Modelling Challenge : Lava Man by cgniyi(m): 10:12am On Aug 12, 2014
kazuna: GUys i am givin up....this model is way too repetitive and almost a bore.....not to talk of the polygons it is eating off my mistress.....
WILL WAIT FOR THE ANIMATION.
spywareczar: Over 3million polygons , So far my system hangs lyk 4 times already cry had to forcefully shut it down with d power button, I think I'll just do it anyhow and submit, coz if I should subdivided the model again, it'll slow my system and it'll be hanging every damn minute

My apologies! smiley I just assumed any software that has sculpting features ( modo, Blender,c4d) is optimized to handle very high polygon count.
Seems Zbrush is very unique.
It's still just 32bits and it handles high polycounts better than other 64bit softwares.
It also doesn't need a high-end graphics card to run, unlike Mudbox.

I advice everyone to check out Zbrush

Tos87: ...hmm i stil beleive ma blender guys can do better.
I'm not doubting the blender users, but judging from the competition so far, Zbrush is just superior when it comes to sculpting
Another method would be to use displacement maps like OKX suggested

Since you sculpt already in C4D, getting into Zbrush shouldn't be too difficult, I think.
I've had a lot of Zbrush tuts for years now, but I only started sculpting this year when I finally got a Wacom Intuos.

Btw, do u guys use a tablet to sculpt in blender/C4D?

I use my mouse, don't have a wacom yet, below is the end result, will try and see if I can add up some detail and post d final render

very nice entries here. i expected a rush of WIPs from the participants, just like the talk before the competition. And yeah, That Model aint bynes so again thumbs up to all those in the competition. Thumbs up again to eyeaye for the good works and keeping the thread alive.
Re: 3d Modelling Challenge : Lava Man by cgniyi(m): 1:12pm On Aug 12, 2014
@spywareczar
Wow, not easy using a mouse to sculpt. Very decent result regardless.

Still a few more days before the deadline.

Kudos to all the participants so far

Zbrush mostly uses ram...mainly i think, but i find it less taxing to reducing into low subdivision, pose, enlarge then switch back. I can't use dynamesh cus it really kills my pc...as in the processing LED does not flash it just stays constantly on.... embarassed and the fan?...choi...on the down side rendering isn't so great, it's better you use another render program...well that's if you have a good rig unlike me i have to make due.
Re: 3d Modelling Challenge : Lava Man by eyeaye: 9:38pm On Aug 12, 2014
so yeah, had to reduce the polys and split the mesh limbs into subtools so that i can easily re-size and pose each part seperately

Re: 3d Modelling Challenge : Lava Man by eyeaye: 5:22pm On Aug 13, 2014
Ok here is the final image grin after enlarging the arms a little i ported the mesh to photoshop added a background smoke and fire flints, painted over the cracks using colour dodge. My pc can't handle any huge render program so i used zbrush inbuilt render mode (fast bpr mode).

I have eueayes work and suddenly i am inspired ....the modelling is not exact as the concept .....so i came up with this
Re: 3d Modelling Challenge : Lava Man by Nobody: 6:51am On Aug 15, 2014
Final render with all glares.....to think that another man can engender rivalry so quick
15 AUGUST 2014....my submission date

second and third images is after compositing trials

At least my Mistress can have good three days off.....Blender 2.71 definitely cant handle more than a million vertex....quite unlike 2.66a.
The WIPs......the modellling like i mention before was hell....the model itself did not resemble d original concept that much because i had to cut so many corners .....just so my Mistress wont BURN

.....next is one of several WIPs
