Jummymine: the poster is a joker. i do not know whether he has ever been in within the four walls of a hospital.
in fact, it is the only meaningful thing for the guy to do.
its thensame over here in ife. Except for a very very few pts i see, like a matron who is vey sick that we are helpin specially by treating, and the very long stayers like the ortho pts whom we do not discharge, yhe wards are empty. the nurses, lab guys and the rest are just sitiing down doing nothing.
to continue wasting money on diesel is mere foolishness. the wis thing to do is to use only he nepa light.
mind you, same happens when johesu, which includes everybody except the doctors, goes on strike.
it is only when individual worker groups , like the pharmacists, physios, lab guys etc go on strike, that no one misses them. work just continues as near normal. that is why you have a union like johesu msde up of sooo many strange bedfellows.
your writeup sucks. Smh

This is mere propaganda nd only d gullible will fall for it. Physiotherapists attending to patients as if they are d primary owners of d patients, these re patients referred to them by doctors nd they usually visit on outpatient basis(from their homes) during d day time.
But who re those treating those said to be on d wards, d nurses? d op is a joker!!
I'm pretty sure hardly will any patient remain on d wards except maybe some doctors re secretly visiting wch is a usual thing in strikes or maybe d orthopedic patients too who re actually stable but for some tractions on their limbs..
The scenes in hospitals during strike actions in virtually all hospitals is nurses, lab scientists etc all being in their respective posts doing nothing nd conserving fuel at nights during power outage is almost a norm in most hospitals.

YourHealthlabs: Reliable information reaching us from Uyo, capital city of Akwa Ibom State is that the Federal Government owned University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH) has being plunged into entire darkness.

We gathered that the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Mr Peter Etete directed the CMAC to pass a circular round the hospital directing that the generating set which supply power to the wards and various clinical departments should not be switched on again, noting that they have not been generating revenue since Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) which the CMD and CMAC belongs to are on strike.

According to one of our source, the wards are always in darkness with the Nurses working there while patients on admission groan under the harsh condition. The Orthopedic unit where patients are lying helpless are the worst hit as they need ventilation to enable some of the pains they feel go away.

Findings reveal that the decision was carried out following a secret meeting held between the CMD and the few NMA members where it was agreed that the only way to make the strike effective was to render other workers and departments useless. The Physiotherapy department we authoritatively gathered has been working as if there is no strike, with all their patients coming for treatment, while the ones in the ward are also being treated. The circular which is now in effect will therefore cripple their activities as most of the machines used for treatment work with power.

UUTH has N4.675 Billion as her budget for 2014 with N22.294 million allocated for the procurement of a dedicated 100KVA generator which is yet to be bought.
Calls place to his mobile number were not successful.

This decision on the part of the CMD is totally unacceptable and anti-hipocratic,if anything but true.

finn: Same thing Johesu people did last year during their strike. Nurses locked up their cabinets with ward equipments, locked up some theatre equipments. Records people locked up files. Porter locked up gurneys. Lab scientists locked up reagents and all. We could run these things but they locked them up so we wont have access to them.

I'm not surprised at the news since its coming from medicalworldnigeria.com, a JOHESU-run website. If it was the so-called Health Administrator running the hospitals, as JOHESU is clamoring for, the power would have been shut off before now. That is the hard decisions a leader of any organisation needs to make. For the quoted monetary allocation, I would like to say that nobody should be carried away by the huge figures. I know a teaching hospital that spends close to 50 million naira alone on diesel monthly. The hospital runs two sites (temporary and permanent) plus additional satellite outposts. Also the budgetry allocation to hospitals is decreasing yearly. Federal hospitals this year had to slash some amount off the salaries of their workers because the govt. gave less money to them. JOHESU should take this as a challenge and make the hospital profitable in the absence of Doctors. I don't think any CMD would shut off the generating set if the hospital is making profit. This news was a propaganda to put Doctors in a bad light but it ended up showing how helpless JOHESU is in absence of Doctors. I thought they claimed to make up 80% of the hospital staff and they couldn't make profit while the 20% they regard as irrelevant is absent. I'm sorry for the patients who would have to suffer for this but that is the hard truth about capitalism, the paradigm Nigeria is gradually moving towards.

The guy made a good point but he should have used 'don't like' instead of 'hate'. cheesy

We sometimes don't need to paint others black for us to look pristine.
Is it economically sensible to be supplying electricity to empty wards or laboratories that are not working?I am sure you know how much a litre of diesel cost.
The OP is a smart kid and he has being trying hard to turn the nairaland's mind against the doctors,if you doubt my assertion, take a trip through his write ups.My advise is for all to take it cool with each other,we are in the sector together and we will continue to need eachother.

it is true that you doctors are wicked and heartless.
diesel has been budgeted for whether or not patients are in these wards and thats the truth. Besides, if only one life is saved with the electricity, isn't it worth it?
No it isn't, not for unfeeling monsters like you. Dead people are just numbers to you, like it is to most Nigerians and our leaders.
Dude the damn diesel has been paid for in the annual budget of the hospital!
The OP is right! This was done to make the strike bite harder, to drive home a point. Worst part is when the strike is called off eventually, the baskard CMD will not account for the money of the diesel that was not bought during the strike, he will not pay for the deaths that might have been caused by his callous decision, it will all be swept under the carpet.
That is the Nigerian way

So so true! I'm a Physiotherapist with the UUTH and i can authoritatively confirm this information as being very TRUE! It's really pathetic the extent a people can go to execute their evil motives. As a Physiotherapist my subunit which is the orthopaedic-outpatient saw 14 patients last friday alone (this is just 1 unit out of the 4 units of the Physiotherapy department) but our work has been made very difficult with the outage of power supply for the whole of last week. I'm about to set out for work this morning as our patients will still be visiting the clinic inspite of the NMA strike but my only concern is the impending lack of electricity which is going to cripple our efforts once again as made clear to us by the 'wicked' circular passed round by the deputy CMAC last week. My plea is that Nigerians should please ask NMA what their MOTIVE really is.

Quick question, is the CMD still receiving salary? Are the striking dokintas still being paid?

I would think if they were really sincere about saving money, then all remuneration received for services not rendered should be returned asap.

usless, megalomaniac hypocrites

I think the CMD's decision was right. Why waste so much money on diesel when commensurate profit is not being generated? Abeg FG should act on the demands of the doctors, i don't want to go to the hospital and instead of seeing a consultant doctor, i will be confronted by a 'consultant' lab technician. What a perversion! Mind you, i'm not a doctor but a concerned Nigerian.

public service in nigeria is a joke. its not about rendering service or contributing to national development, it mostly about how much you can gleen from the government and the number of doors you can open for your friends and family members while doing nothing. most of these guys, from university lecturers to doctors and NNPC workers own their own businesses and consult in the private sector but they still want to eat the national cake. its nothing bit shameful greed
