No fewer than 5,000 members of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC ) and the People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) have dumped the parties for the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Mashi council area of Katsina State.

The decampees were received over the weekend by the Katsina State PDP chairman, Rabiu Gambo Bakori and the chief of staff in the Katsina Government House, Salisu Yusuf Majigiri during the presentation of PDP flags to councillorship candidates in the area ahead of the forthcoming council elections.

Receiving the decampees, chief of staff in the Katsina State Government House, Salisu Yusuf Majiri, a former chairman of Mashi council area, said the PDP remained the only national party that has linkages across the length and breadth of Nigeria.

“PDP has no ethnic, regional or religious affiliations. It is the party for all Nigerians and the fact that we have succeeded in delivering dividends of democracy in the state and the nation in general is a clear indication that the PDP has solutions to Nigeria’s problems.”

Majigiri insisted that the PDP is the party to beat and expressed optimism that it will clinch all the chairmanship and councillorship seats in the state ahead of the forthcoming council elections, even as he lauded the developmental strides of the PDP government in the state.

Earlier, leader of the APC decampees, Zayyana Lawal Mashi and his counterpart from the PDM, Salmanu Marke said their decision to join PDP was in appreciation of the developmental strides recorded in Mashi council area and the state in general.

They noted that Mashi local government had “benefitted tremendously with different developmental projects that cut across roads, health care delivery and water supply”.
