Buhari, Threat To Democracy – by activatenigeria: 9:03am On Jul 23, 2014
A non-political group, Elite Youths Support and Development Initiative, EYSDI, has said that former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari remains a threat to the country’s democracy, saying he must purge himself of all anti-democratic tendencies if he must be relevant in the present scheme of things in the political arena.

Buhari had Monday alleged that President Goodluck Jonathan was behind the impeachment of the former Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako and the threat of impeachment looming over some state governors as misplaced. In a statement last night, the group said, “When a former Head of State, whom one would have considered a statesman, decides to remain in active partisan politics, he constantly draws attention to his own records especially when he was in office’’.

The statement added, “as the saying goes, he who seeks equity must come with clean hands, and Buhari is known not only to have subverted the Constitution when he and his group overthrew the elected government of the Second Republic, but his administration was notorious for gross human rights abuses, arbitrariness in the so-called War Against Indiscipline and Corruption in the 1980s, when people like Alex Ekwueme were incarcerated for no just cause.

He is on the march again and our various security agencies should, therefore, watch, scrutinise and hold him responsible for his ploy to once again try tov subvert our democracy, the group stated. “Buhari who claims to be a statesman should apply caution in his statements considering the security situation in the country today as he threatened anarchy which has been his trade mark from time immemorial’’, it added.
