nd let me teach u in a milliondollar way!
6/3(1+2)=
6(1+2)/3=
(open d bracket)
(6*1)+(6*2)/3=
(6+12)/3=
18/3= 6
the question didnt go like this 6(1+2)/3..OR
[6(1+2)]/3 where u would've been correct.
U jst failed d 1st step.....look critically grin

so wld u tell me d 3 under the 6 wld disappear?? As long as dere is a bracket, d division sign divides all!!

Aphex: Ok ok...chimex,tell us d answer
Here u are
Question:6/3(1+2)
BODMAS comes to mind..n yes BODMAS it is.
Bracket 1st: 6/3(1+2);
1+2=3,(terms in bracket)
fraction now becomes:
=6/3(3)
this is where the confusion stems from
the next step is the OF....yes OF..
This function term is mostly omitted in virtually all mathematical questions and calculations, only present in its embedded topic(i.e BODMAS)
the above expression in its expanded and rightful form is
6/3 OF(1+2), leaving the simplified form as 6/3 OF(3)...
Did i hear u say hmmm...(yeah)
Obviously, the next n right step is
6/3 of 3
=6/3x3
=6/9=2/3.....Q.E.D grin

Re: Very Simple But A Bit Technical. by Bandura(m): 10:43pm On Aug 02, 2014
U re wrng bro...d correct ans goes like dis...
6/2(1+2)
1st: u remove d bracket.
Note:adding d terms in d bracket y d bracket sign () is stil intact is wrong.
Removing the bracket thus:
we now have: 6*1+2/3*1+2.
Next is 'OF' wich also stands for multiplication within d palance of 'BODMAS'
To have: 6+2/3+2.
Next is Division,
6 by 3=2
+by +=0
2 by 2=0
therefore, 6/2(1+2)=2. Dat is d final ans
simple but technical indeed.

I actually did my thinking, I didn't think deep. Chimex, if u have 6/3*3, next up in BODMAS is actually division before multiplication so it'll be 2*3=6!

ur missin the point..this is d technical aspect.
It is 6/3(3)
=6/3 of3. The OF sign comes b4 the multiplication , although it is a multiplier in itself.
Any number that precedes a bracket in an expression is an "OF" multipler, not the ordinary multiplier....
That expression is more like 3 OF 3 rather than 3*3. Even though the OF is a multiplier sign, d difference is that it comes b4 d division sign in any eqn to be solved.
Get the difference![/b].

U guyz shld try a calculator n prevent urselves from further doubts...

the 'of' in bodmas is meant for the bracket o!

yeah, dats why u've to multiply 3 OF (2+1) b4 dividing..

Chimex388: Fellow Nairalanders:
6/3(1+2)=?

6/3=2(1+2)= 2+4=6
6 or 2*3.

Or
6/3(1+2)
3(1+2)
3+6=9
6/9=2/3.
Re: Very Simple But A Bit Technical. by Chimex388: 7:31am On Aug 14, 2014

6/3=2(1+2)=2+2=4

Or
6/3(1+2)
3(1+2)
3+6=9
6/9=2/3.
there cant b 2 different answers in maths n u know dat..
Try to see e error in ur 1st solution...
The 2nd is correct..
I have posted d comprehensive soln above..u can take a luk

I do know there can't be two answers in mathematics; That's a given.
I checked and resolved the ans for #1 again...Try taking a look @ it.

u can imagine d ansa above...^
People are confusing it because of the unclear computational sign(/)..
While some may see it like this:
6*{3(1/(1+2))}
Others may see it as:
6/3*{1/(1+2)}
Now, herez the varying answers:
The first wl gv u 6;
While d second wl gv u: 2/3.
So thatz the confusion there... But for me, the right answer is just smiling at me cos I hv already caught it... Just ask me... *winks*

U got it wrong from d very 1st step by dividing 6 by 3..
If u had really studied my soln, u would've noted dat the "3" is attached to the bracket sign DIRECTLY as in 3(1+2)= 3 OF(1+2) and not 3*(1+2)....which i stated clearly is not so common in maths texts and "OF" comes b4 divide... So u were WRONG in dividing by 6!...
Pls try usin a Scientific calculator if u still 've doubts.
