I CHOSED TO POST THIS HERE BECAUSE THIS IS WHERE I BELONG HERE. Ever wondered why people lose their temper and do silly things? The truth is that there is no such thing as losing one’s temper, because one can only lose that which is one’s possession. Anger is a strong feeling of grievance or displeasure. Simply put, it is a major instrument of destruction anywhere and everywhere. It could be borne out of a number of events and conditions. Firstly, it could be as a result of existing circumstances. This perspective is of the view that anger is brought to life as a result of failure to find a meaning in life or fulfilling a particular objective. Anger usually comes into play when one’s environment blocks this drive. For example, not passing the University Matriculation Examinations, mix up in the mandatory National Youth Service or even simple issues like having no signal on your phone to make a quick or important call. It could also be due to the faulty mindset of people. This perspective is of the view that people are spurred to anger as a result of their faulty way of reasoning or perceiving situations or problems. Such people tend to see things from negative perspectives and frequently misinterpret the behaviour of others. Another cause of uncontrolled anger is the environment. Noise, pollution, social isolation or strive for survival can serve as preludes to anger. Anger can lead to rage, resentment, malice, violence and ultimately, death. The following are some facts you must note about anger: - Anger is a momentary madness, so control your passion or it will control you. - Anger is never without an argument but seldom with a good one. - Anger is like fire. It has no eyes, so it burns all clean. - There is a very thin cord between tolerance and anger. - Once you’ve acted on it, you cannot take it back. Everyone has the natural tendency to get angry, but you need to remember that getting angry is not the same as acting on your anger. By acting on your anger, you attract the inability to control your temper. Not being able to control your temper turns you into a walking time-bomb. Needless to say the expression “if you can’t beat them, join them” fails to apply here. You don’t need to be a genius of the arts to know that you can control your anger. In fact, it takes more strength not to act on your anger. You can learn to control your anger by - Admitting you have a problem: this is usually the most difficult step to take, as people rarely see that they harbour in their minds issues that could lead to expression of anger. Once identified however, it paves a pathway to redemption. - You must be determined to beat it at all cost. You need to remember that choosing not to rave back at someone doesn’t make you dumb; it makes you the bigger person. - Take control of the driver seat. Take control of the situations around you and don’t let anything get the better of you. As it is fondly said “food was made for man, not man for food.” - Settle for peace. Don’t focus on the thousands of reasons to fight, but on the thousands of reasons not to fight. - Keep yourself balanced. Most times, it is easy to become angry when you have too much to do or nothing at all to do. There is a time for every thing. Balance your time and know when to kick back, relax and live to enjoy another day. Anyone can do a number of things and break loose because of freedom of choice, but it takes a strong, focused and highly determined individual to say no to a lot of things. The man who gets angry for the right reasons, at the right people, in the right way, at the right time and for the right length of time must be commended. Almost all anger and aggression can be cured with knowledge and a little hard work. |
