Oyinlola Writes Jonathan, Offers To Quit PDP by Titilayodeji13(m): 8:18am On Aug 03, 2014 |
Former governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and his party, Peoples Democratic |Party (PDP), are about parting ways…for good. The retired general believes President Goodluck Jonathan does not want him in the party even after going the extra mile to prove his loyalty. Oyinlola in a July 30, 2014 letter to the President said he would not be doing himself any good “if I don’t think seriously about my political journey and take a firm decision.” The former PDP National Secretary enumerated the various efforts he and others including his friend and former colleague in the army, Senate President David Mark, made to reconcile with the party and said: “I may, at this point, need to look beyond the party and take my destiny in my hands.” The letter, 00/PDP/5, reads in part: “Your Excellency, you are very conversant of all efforts made by me and very importantly, by respected leaders of the party to get this matter resolved and truly reconcile all aggrieved parties. “I, however, learnt that you were not sure of my support for you, given my closeness to former President Olusegun Obasanjo hence the decision to disallow me from returning to my legally recognized position as the National secretary of the PDP. “I have met you on several occasions on this matter to pledge my loyalty. At my last meeting with you, which was at the instance of the party’s National chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, you requested that I be part of the ongoing Osun State governorship campaigns. Mr. President would remember that I stated that the minimum the party leadership could do to get me to campaign was to instruct the Ogun State chapter of the party to withdraw its appeal at the Supreme Court; or alternatively, obey the Appeal Court order, and allow me to resume duty, the same way the party obeyed the faulty Federal High Court verdict that ousted me. “To the foregoing, I wish to state that I was promised some positive response which never came, up till this moment. The Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih CFR, has also on several occasions, after discussing me, met with Your Excellency on this matter assuring you of my loyalty to you and to the cause of the party. “I am also aware that the Senate President, Senator David Mark, GCON, has similarly met with you and made a case for my return to office. Senator Mark went to the extent of asking you to hold him responsible for all actions I might take as National Secretary. “Mr. President, allow me to state with emphasis that what joins Senator Mark and my humble-self is more than politics. The military family that binds us does not know double-dealing or disloyalty. A part of our training, we keep our words, hence we are called “Gentlemen Officers.” That precisely was why the Senate President could most frontally vouch for me. “Your Excellency, allow me to also recall that on three occasions, Senator Mark informed that I had agreed to submit to you a pre-signed resignation letter, if that would allay all fears of insincerity; and all, in a bid to ensure that the injustice of my illegal removal from office is redressed. “I wish to respectfully state that I do not go back on my words, just like I don’t abandon my friends, associates and leaders, no matter how hard the situation might be. “That explains why as a State Governor, I remained very loyal to my boss, former President Ibrahim Babangida, GCFR, even when he had some issues with the government of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, I wish to respectfully recall very respectfully, that Chief Obasanjo never made any attempt to move against me on account of these differences. “The same spirit today drives me as I maintain my loyalty to former President Obasanjo, who may, or who may not have any relationship with your government. It was that same spirit that made me insist on your approval of my candidature, in your capacity as national leader of the party and president, before I agreed with my brother-governors request in 2012, to contest for the position of PDP National Secretary. I should like to state that I am not a fair-weather fellow. To my friends, the spirit is very similar to marital vow.” Oyinlola said it was unfortunate that President Jonathan was unprepared to listen to entreaties by party leaders on his behalf. He added: “Mr. President, I wish to observe that with all these efforts by me and other credible leaders of our party, it appears clearly to me that you are not totally convinced that I am who I have always been in my journey through life. “I have, therefore, come to the conclusion that it is this mindset that is at the root of my challenges in PDP. It seems to me that I am not wanted by the national leader of the party; and I know that. “Therefore, I will certainly not be doing myself justice and good, despite everything, if I don’t think seriously about my political journey and take a firm decision. “Mr. President, I may at this point, need to look beyond the party and take my destiny in my hands. I sincerely hope that this will solve the problem. “Conclusively, Your Excellency, if I am doing the above and take further steps without telling you, I would be negating the pledge of loyalty which I had earlier made to you; hence this correspondence to Mr. President.” Source www.thenationonlineng.net/new/oyinlola-writes-jonathan-offers-to-quit-pdp/ 19 Likes |

PDP always reneging on their words and disrespecting internal party order. Anyway, Oyinlola can do whatever he like. As Military administrator of Lagos State, he did nothing but loot the treasury along with his boss and corruption-in-chief of the Armed Forces, Gen IBB. As gov of Osun State, he was a mediocre at best that gave AC and Aregbesola an easy ride to Osun govt house. He was rejected @ the poll when he contested for Senate in 2011 by Osun. APC needs the few votes of his loyalissts in 2015 but we shall revisit his case on aSsumption to office. APC!!! Change 57 Likes |

Na Dem Dem!. There will be many betrayals, decampings, dirty deals and lies between now and May 2015. Soon political assasinations will begin as usual. 1. How may times have a US republican decamped to the democrats party?. 2. How many times have a UK libertarian decamped to the labour party?. You see these are countries where politicians have intergrity and true to themselves not to money. No matter who win 2015, whether PDP or APC Nigeria will not change. Because there's no difference between APC and PDP. Infact, with all the decampings APC have more PDP members now. So, where is the change going to come from?. My pity goes not to politicians jumping from party to party in a blink of an eye. Rather, my pity goes to all you Nairalander's who're here insulting each other for sake of greedy, selfish, corrupt politicians who don't care about you. So, I made this little song for you all ethnic bashers, and blind sycophants. If we want change in this country we must start doing something, that's why I wrote this song. Listen to "Na Dem Dem" on youtube. Send to your friends, it's also on iTunes incase you want to support me. Enjoy your electricity and good roads. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rebwLLyzrr8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNLDFmJ9K0w 25 Likes |

Ebola-hit Sierra Leone declares state of emergency FREETOWN (AFP) – Sierra Leone leader Ernest Bai Koroma declared a state of emergency on Thursday and as the country struggled to contain the deadly Ebola epidemic. The impoverished country, along with neighbouring Guinea and Liberia, is struggling to contain an epidemic that has infected 1,200 people and left 672 dead across the region since the start of the year. “Extraordinary challenges require extraordinary measures. The Ebola virus disease poses an extraordinary challenge to our nation,” Koroma said in a televised address to the nation. “Consequently… I hereby proclaim a state of public emergency to enable us to take a more robust approach to deal with the Ebola outbreak.” Koroma said he had cancelled a trip to a summit of around 50 African leaders in Washington DC next week. He announced however that he would travel to neighbouring Guinea for a regional summit on the crisis gathering the heads of Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea and Ivory Coast. Koroma announced a raft of measures as part of the state of emergency, including quarantining Ebola-hit areas and deploying security forces to protect medical workers. He banned all public meetings not related to Ebola and cancelled foreign trips by ministers and other government officials, exempting only “absolutely essential engagements”. The president said the measures would be in place initially for 60 to 90 days, and then be reassessed. Sierra Leone, which has seen 224 deaths, was also preparing Thursday to bury Omar Khan, a “national hero” who saved the lives of more than 100 Ebola patients before succumbing to the tropical bug. - ‘Very serious threat’ - Fears that the outbreak could spread to other continents have been growing with European and Asian countries on alert. Leading medical charity Doctors Without Borders warned the crisis would only get worse and said there was no overarching strategy to handle the world’s worst-ever outbreak of the disease. Sierra Leone’s announcement comes a day after Liberia, which has seen 129 deaths, said it was shutting all schools and placing “non-essential” government workers on 30 days’ leave. US Christian charity Samaritan’s Purse said it was temporarily withdrawing its non- essential staff from Liberia, citing regional “instability and ongoing security issues”. Hong Kong announced quarantine measures for suspected cases, although one woman arriving from Africa with possible symptoms tested negative, while the EU said it was ready to deal with the threat. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has held talks with global health officials on potential measures to halt the spread of the disease. In Britain, where one person has tested negative for the disease, Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said it was regarded as “a very serious threat”. The US Peace Corps announced Wednesday it was pulling hundreds of volunteers from Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. The European Union is equipped and ready to treat victims should the deadly virus be found in its 28 member states, an EU source said in Brussels. - Medical staff ‘swamped’ - In Hong Kong, a densely populated city previously scarred by disease outbreaks such as the 2003 SARS epidemic, health officials confirmed they would quarantine as a precautionary measure any visitors from Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia who showed fever symptoms. One woman arriving in the southern Chinese city from Africa, who showed symptoms including fever and vomiting, has tested negative for Ebola. Australia, which has already warned against travel to west Africa’s Ebola-hit countries, said it was well prepared in the unlikely event that the virus should reach its shores. Meanwhile, Thai health authorities said they had ordered all hospitals to monitor patients for any symptoms, particularly nationals or foreign tourists who had been in the outbreak area. A British doctor volunteering in Sierra Leone treating Ebola patients told Metro newspaper that medical staff were swamped. “The main challenge here, though, is that the health authorities just don’t have the infrastructure to cope. They’re overwhelmed,” Benjamin Black said. Togo-based pan-African airline ASKY, which serves 20 destinations, has halted all flights to and from Liberia and Sierra Leone following the death of a passenger from the virus. The 40-year-old man, who travelled from Liberia, died in Lagos on Friday in Nigeria’s first confirmed death from Ebola. The virus crossing borders for the first time by plane could lead to new flight restrictions aimed at containing outbreaks, the world aviation agency said. Japan’s health ministry said it has sent out an alert to hospitals and health organisa 1 Like |
