^^ Learn what? ~ How to think like those illiterates? ~ How to circle menacingly around a hapless victim based on unfounded superstitious dogma? ~ How to video a woman (in danger of being assaulted by agberos with tins of dried pepper) with a Nokia 33 phone? Pray do tell, what am I yet to learn? |

Did I just read some comments about ''educated'' people implying that witchcraft is a superstitious dogma for the shallow minded Nigerians? I just have few questions for you, 1. Was the word ''witch'' coined by Nigerians? 2. Is the church of wicca a product of Nigeria? 3. Are you saying that in all your education, you've not read that Americans, Britons and Europeans (who are civilised) practice witchcraft and devil worship? Please stop displaying ignorance here and go and carry out a proper research. |

Ivanspring: Did I just read some comments about ''educated'' people implying that witchcraft is a superstitious dogma for the shallow minded Nigerians? I just have few questions for you I'm educated enough not to believe such gibberish about a person supposedly asleep at home adopting the form of a bird at night to cause mahem and destruction to others, or even more ridiculous, about a "bird" flying through the air, colliding with an object and then transforming into a human being. Ivanspring: 1. Was the word ''witch'' coined by Nigerians? Much as I'd love to indulge you, this isn't a debate about the origin of witchcraft. Yes belief in witchcraft isn't exclusively a Nigerian thing. And yes, I dare say it's been practised in many cultures (obviously in different ways) all over the world, no doubt about that. The discussion here is about people believing that another human being, an innocent soul magically adopted the form of a bird, than transforms back to a human in broad daylight. Yes, people in medieval times believed in it and those accused of it were burnt, witch-hunted, underwent inquisitions (e.g: the Spanish inquisition) and so on. But most of those occurrence had a hidden agenda to them - politics, etc. and even ignorance. The point of contention is that, those happened then. In the past. When people knew no better. People have moved on since then (well, except Nigerian of course). The world has advanced and with the advent of modern technology, it's got to take a particular ilk of really dense, ignorant, people to still believe that now, in this day and age. Our forefathers can be excused because they knew no better but what excuse do people have (especially those in the picture surrounding the petrified woman seeking "explanations" ), if not sheer ignorance? Ivanspring: Please stop displaying ignorance here and go and carry out a proper research. I think it's safe to say without a shred of doubt that you're the ignorant one here. Do you have any idea of how very stüpíd you'd sound, walking the streets, claiming and fervently believing that someone transformed into a bird, went flying through the air, hit something and then turned back into a human? Did you by any chance read the article pasted on this thread and more importantly, did you understand the tone of it? In case you didn't let me help jog your memory: bigemmmybig: Pay particular attention to the highlighted bit and you tell me what sane person whose claimed to have passed through the four walls of a higher institution in this day and age would believe such clap-trap? |

There are certain things in this world that are beyond human understanding and such things are termed 'mysteries'. Even science cannot explain them. This is one of such. Whether you believe it or not doesn't change the fact that it exists, that it happens everyday and that it will continue to happen till the end of this world. |

Ivan, you disappoint me with this response of yours. A thousand years ago, many of the things we take for granted now were termed "mysteries". Likewise, a thousand years from now, many of the things we see as "mysteries" would have a perfectly simple explanation. As far as I'm concerned, religion (based on faith), simply aims to explain concepts that have not yet been explained by science. Be that as it may,to claim that a person transforms from human to bird and then back to human is pure poppycock. |
