Toyota likes staying East it seems. They have a manufacturing plant in S.A and Kenya(Hino) and several assembling plants(3 in S.A and 3 in Kenya).Strange that they aren't in Nigeria.Toyota has been in Kenya since 1965 and now is starting an Academy in Nairobi.

South Africa has electricity 24/7 and world class ports whereas Nigeria is still centuries behind.

But they will have to build Shekau his own customized car and employ a batallion of 'Boko Haram' boys to protect their plant if they REALLY want to be in business.

Aigbofa: Ford should do well in Nigeria. They have a range of models Nigerians would like to buy. Getting spare parts has been one of the major reasons Nigerians are wary of American cars.

most ford parts are inter-changeable thus will be very good for the Nigerian market...and ford cars are very durable too
Re: Ford Motor Considers Opening Plant In Nigeria by Nobody: 6:46pm On Aug 07, 2014
logica: He he. Why won't they be looking for new markets? We all know how well Detroit is doing. grin

has nothing to do with Detroit but more about increasing profitability...with all the Asian car makers trying to make Nigeria their second home, you expect an American automobile giant to shy away?If Detroit was doing good(they are picking up btw) they would still need to expand their market base...stop thinking like local champion

The main issue now is how to preserve and nurture indigenous motor companies in Nigeria such as Innoson motors, from fierce competition from well-known global motor companies.

Re: Ford Motor Considers Opening Plant In Nigeria by redsun(m): 8:53am On Aug 08, 2014
At the time when indigenous car manufacturing is just springing up. Economy sabotage, they don't want us to grow our own way, they want to keep giving us fish, instead of letting us learn to catch our fish.

Cars are the least of Nigerian problems now. The country needs basic infrastructures first before all the bogus luxuries like american cars. The people should learn to grow, adapt and appreciate what they have from the scratch. They should learn to crawl before they can walk or run.
