Ebola Outbreak In Nigeria: Should Sports Events Be Suspended? by solbase10(m): 11:49am On Aug 09, 2014
A deadly disease that have recently killed scores of people across the West African region, the Ebola, have led to the suspension of the domestic leagues in Liberia and Sierra Leone where the disease is turning into an epidemic.

Sadly, the disease has found its way into Nigeria with reported deaths of a few Nigerians.

There is an increasing awareness of the Ebola danger and people are afraid to get in contact with others for fear of contracting the dreaded virus.

Sports events are contact activities, and the stadiums are the venues where thousands of fans converge to support their teams.

With the dreaded Ebola now in the country, do you support the idea that football matches in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), other football games and sports events should go on a recess while the Federal Government through the Ministry of Health search for solutions to the Ebola scourge?

Do you believe that the emergence of this disease which could significantly be avoided by bodily contact with infested persons can hinder football and other sports in Nigeria and West Africa in general?

Are there ways the Ministry of Health and the Nigeria Football Federation can help allay the fears of football players and fans, and effectively raise awareness on how not to contract the Ebola virus? What measures do you think the authorities should implement so that Nigerians will not be deprived of sports events due to the outbreak of the Ebola disease?
