Peugeot Owners Meet

I have been receiving mails and calls from Lion owners all over the country, on issues and sometimes excitements from newly Lion owners. So far, I could tell from these issues, they could have been prevented with acquisition of right information/knowledge and basic preventative maintenance tips. A lot of Lion owners are so scared when they hear or read of these DIY tips, which if applied, would prevent nightmares these Lion owners go through.

For the above reason, I realised that explaining and demonstrating these tips live and other discussions on Lion brand will go a lot to help people take care of their Lions and would be surprised how there nightmares would varnish and never return. For that, I am initiating this opportunity for it to become a reality. If I, with no science background, could understand and apply these tips on my Lions and other people’s Lions, then you can. Don’t let people’s opinion of you become your reality.

For the first time in Nigeria, owners of particular brand of vehicle, Peugeot, will be coming together to understand their Lions better than what books or articles teach them. For the first time in Nigeria, you will be shown simple ways one can upgrade from used to brand new Lions or add more Lions, irrespective of your current income monthly or annually, without any Loan. Isn’t that wonderful?

I have discussed with some new Peugeot parts dealers and they are willing to come and educate us how to identify fake and genuine parts. I have also discussed with Peugeot Auto Transmission expert who also is ready to come and educate and answer questions, on best way to own Auto Tranny Peugeots and the recommended ATF for them. Other Peugeot specialists will be part of the Meet as well. I also plan to get PAN to come and talk to us. At least have your questions prepared, like why some vital parts are not available in the country, irrespective of their presence in the country. Lol!

Quite a number of Lion owners have been making grave mistakes, changing their transmission fluids with wrong fluids, be it manual or Auto box, when there are better alternatives available in the country. All that will be discussed. Also, discussion on right Engine oils for our Lions engines and renewal interval controversy.

For those outside Abuja, it’s not going to end in Abuja. There is plan to take it to other states, so that everyone will benefit.

Oh! I forgot to add. There will be a free scan of Peugeots with Peugeot Planet (PP2000) for all attendees interested, after the program every Saturday. And most importantly, it’s free scan. Anyone who had carried out a PP2000 session in his Lion will understand the value.

What more can I say. It’s happening!

Date: Every Saturday.
Time: 8.30am – 11.00am
Venue: Gudu Park & Recreation Garden, beside NNPC Filling Station, Gudu, Abuja.

Before I go, I have this I learnt from someone to say to you reading this: "It's better to be prepared for an opportunity and not have one, than have have an opportunity and not be prepared." Which do you prefer? Former or latter?

Hopefully, Peugeot users and owners will take you up on this offer, and be prepared to learn. From experience though, I have found that it's not an inability to carry out basic DIY that holds the average Nigerian automobile owner back. It's just sheer laziness, and a desire to be spoon-fed, rather than get their hands dirty.

If you can change their perception, that will be a major achievement in itself.

Siena: It's just sheer laziness, and a desire to be spoon-fed, rather than get their hands dirty.
.

I would respectfully disagree with you on the above Siena.
As the whole world knows, the average Nigerian is not the least bit lazy. He/she is a go-getter when opportunity presents itself and even when the odds are stacked against.

I think IMHO that it has more to do with knowledge and priorities. What is the incentive for a car owner in Nigeria to carry out simple DIY tasks on one's car when the labour cost to do it is almost free? I buy my service parts myself (either shipped from abroad or locally)and take it to a garage where it will cost me between N2,000 - N5,000 ($12-$30) in labour charges.

You will agree that the cost of labour in saner climes is more than enough reason to adopt a DIY lifestyle. Work on car, plumbing, wood work, paint the house, garden work, baby sitting / child minding etc. My expat colleague that had a company flat in Ikoyi with car/driver, maid, cook etc moved back to Paris where she has to pay 1,500 Euros a month to get a nanny to watch her 18 month old daughter for a few hours Mon - Fri is always moaning about how she had it so easy in Naija.

Let me take the example of a chap that lives in Ikeja and works in VI or Lekki; he leaves home at 6am and returns at 9pm Monday to Friday which includes time spent sitting in traffic (4-6hours/day). That leaves zero time for any DIY. Weekend comes and he either wants to catch up on some sleep or there are family commitments to attend to.

You seem to forget that you're a professional mechanic and what seems like simple to you is rocket science to the average Bala, Femi, Emeka and Shagati. Lock-tite, blow torch, torx wrench, triple square bit, etc etc. Oginni??

I have a background in engineering but I have worked in Sales and Marketing all my life. I have some knowledge of how to wield a spanner plus the interest is there (priority).

If I don't know, then I don't know (knowledge)

I would even more respectfully disagree with you on this one, Shagati.

When I say lazy, I'm not referring to deep mechanical / electrical issues. I'm referring to lazy in general.

Let me cite a few examples.

There's a thread on here, whereby the thread starter was asking for assistance on engine oil and coolant for his Toyota. His manufacturer recommended distilled water mixed with coolant, if the coolant was concentrate, i.e NOT ready mixed. A helpful poster explained how he could get distilled water - either buy it through a supplier, or distill it himself. By collecting the draining water from a domestic air conditioner, or distillation by boiling water, and using the condensation collected.

Another poster dismissed this helpful suggestion, these were his words:

"And tell me who goes through that process to get distilled water? How many of those things that you highlighted out there are feasible in Nigeria?? Naija no b am".

Now not everyone has access to a domestic air conditioner, but believe me, neighbours with air conditioner units will be only too glad to have their draining water collected, as opposed to having a permanently wet verandah, or grounds.

And I'm sure everyone boils water!

Another example.

A good friend of mine had a flat tyre in a shopping centre in Central London. I got a call from him, he wanted my AA membership number, as he had "broken down." Of course I gave it to him, not knowing what was wrong with his car. This was around 12:30 hrs on a week day. He called me later in the day, around 16:40 hrs. He complained bitterly that the AA had just arrived, and were "only now fitting his spare".

I asked him what he meant, he said he had had a flat tyre, and the AA kept him waiting for over 3 hours! I asked him why he didn't simply fit his spare, as opposed to killing 3 hours. His response?

"I don't have time for this nonsense". This is a guy who had almost 4 hours to waste!

I get the same when I get requests for help.

A guy requested help with the radio code for his 2008 Honda Accordere in the UK. I got him the code, and emailed it to him. Only for him to call me back 10 minutes later, saying he had received the code, and what was he to do with it?

I told him to follow the prompts on his display (his car has Navigation and a full colour screen). He said he can't understand it. I said I can't help him there, as I was not in his car, and couldn't see what he was seeing. I asked him if his car has an Owner's Manual, he said yes. I then told him to look up imputing his audio code.

His words?

"All that na long thing, too stressful, I rather manage the car without the Navigation, until my friend wey get the same car come my house."

Agree or not, that's about as lazy as anyone can get!

Ikenna, apologies for derailing.

@ Siena,

There is nothing to apologise for. Actually, your post reminded me of vital topics i forgot to include in things to discuss.

Unfortunately, those outside Abuja are going to miss quite a lot, for now though.

@ Ikenna351, I admire the passion you have for your Lions and willingness to assist other Lion owners. I'm a Bimmer fan and wish something similar will take place for Bimmer fans in Abuja as well. I might show up at the venue but I'll be the odd one amongst the Lions.

Even if you don't own a Peugeot, it'll still be worth attending. I doubt you'll be the odd one out, I would imagine you'd be made very welcome.

Besides, you never know what you'll be driving tomorrow. smiley

Hello everyone.

Been busy since morning, work and arrangements for the Meet tomorrow. Not long i got home, after leaving the garden, some minutes ago.

Yes, non Peugeot owners are invited as well. After all, you may decide to add a Lion to one you currently drive, after hearing what we have to discuss on our Lions. Lol!

But note discussion is specifically on Lions, no other brand. But of course, you will benefit from some topics that relate to other brands or cars generally.

Will see you guys tomorrow morning.

Even if discussions are specifically on Peugeots, other motorists can also learn a thing or two that pertains to driving/owning/operating a car in Nigeria.

It went very well. In fact, someone drove his Peugeot 406, all the way from Kaduna to Abuja to attend it. I was amazed when i saw him because he called and said he would come and he did. Thats very inspiring. It shows love people have for their Lion.

Even, the person that came has bo Peugeot car, but he came because he wanted to learn. Of course, the program started immediately without waiting for more people to come. He definitely benefitted more.

The program is not a Car display show. Its a discussion forum where all listed on the flyer are carried out or discussed.

As for Peugeot Festival day, we will discuss that in subsequent meeting. If we agree to do it, then we put our heads together and make it happen, probably beforw the end of the year, in dry season.

Re: Peugeot Owners Meet: Abuja by Ikenna351(m): 6:55pm On Aug 17, 2014
Beforw now, i found out that more than half of Peugeot owners in Abuja that have been calling and bringing their Lions to me to diagnose dont even know such thing like Nairaland exist, let alone visit the forum. Unfortunately i couldnt invite them for yesterday's meeting because the flyer came out very late and most of them are not on WhatsApp. I could only send the soft copy of the flyer to few that were on WhatssApp and someothers on Nairaland.

Will do my best to let more Peugeot Owners in Abuja be aware of such program, which i already started today.

Also, because of how it went yesterday, if someone could drove from Kaduna to Abuja to attend the meeting, then its my responsibility to make sure the meeting holds every Saturday as stated. To do that, i have decided to start charging some fees for the PP2000 Scan session after each meeting, for anyone interested. With that, i will have no reason not to keep the meeting running, since the venue is paid for. So that i wont have to give excuses it couldnt hold because i could no longer afford to hire the place, even for once. The fee from the scan should at least go along way go cover for that.

So, the PP2000 session/scan at the Saturday's meeting will no longet be free, to keep the program running. Thanks.
