Amaechi And Commissioner Of Police May Clash Over Campaign. by Longeria(m): 8:24pm On Aug 14, 2014 |
Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi has denied campaigning for his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), during his recent ‘Meet-the-People’ tour of the 23 local government areas of the state. He was responding to the state Police Commissioner, Tunde Ogunsakin, who on Tuesday frowned at his (Amaechi’s) political speeches during his tour of local governments. Ogunsakin spoke during an interaction with newsmen at the police command headquarters on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt. This was the second time in less than one week Ogunsakin would express dissatisfaction with statements credited to Amaechi and activities of politicians and youth groups during the Governors’ tour of the local government areas. While reiterating the earlier ban on political activities in the state, Ogunsakin said “the police has observed with dismay that some political office holders have begun flouting the earlier ban under the guise of local government familiarisation tours or courtesy visits to local governments in the state. “Particular reference is made herewith of some youth organisations that have hijacked such visits or tours and turned them into full scale political rallies. “The command unequivocally warns that anybody caught in this act will be decisively dealt with within the ambits of the law. “The ban on political campaigns, especially unauthorised gatherings of people who directly or indirectly advance the aspirations of politicians or political parties is premised on the strength of the Electoral Act,” the police boss said. But the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Ibim Semenitari, said in a statement in Port Harcourt on Tuesday that “the Rivers State Government is worried about the tone of the statement credited to CP Ogunshakin and concerned about the implication of the same. “For the purposes of clarification and emphasis, the administration of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi considers participation a key element of democratic rule and good governance. “As a result, it has consistently embarked on stewardship accountability fora and stock taking since Governor Amaechi assumed office in October 2007. “Town hall meetings, meet the people tours and engagement with professional groups and other publics is neither novel nor strange with the Amaechi regime. “The alleged comments of the CP appear curious, especially coming on the heels of the overtly political purported endorsement on Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike, for governor by some members of the Rumueprikom community and the visit of the wife of the President to local government areas in Rivers State. “While the purpose of these obvious political gatherings of the PDP is campaign for 2015, CP Ogunshakin appears unable to see or hear any evil. “The Rivers State Government is conscious of this but wishes to reassure CP Ogunshakin that it is not a brigand or an irresponsible government,” the commissioner said. Semenitari further explained that “Governor Amaechi has clearly stated that the purpose of his ward tours is to find out the impact of his numerous projects on the people at the grassroots and what gaps still exist to enable him cross all T’s and dot all the I’s as his administration finishes its last lap”. Semenitari added: “We can state unequivocally that we will not disregard the rules of engagement and that when we are set for campaign, it will be clear not just to the Rivers State Police Command but to the entire world. “We will not hide our glowing light under a bushel; however we would wish to respectfully request CP Ogunshakin to be even handed in his caution and ensure that what is sauce for the goose is also sauce for the gender.” It will be recalled that former Rivers State Police Commissioner, Mbu Joseph Mbu, had placed the ban on early campaigns in the state before his redeployment to Abuja. http://dailyindependentnig.com/2014/08/amaechi-cp-may-clash-campaign/ |

First to comment. Glory be to God! As for Amaechi and that lying parrot of his called Ibim S-e-m-e-n or Ibim Sperm, perhaps they think Nigerians are fools. Amaechi does nothing other than campaigning for APC. Which meet-the-people tour has he been undertaking? Is it to tell Rivers people how he has completed the monorail project? Nonsense! Both sides of the political divide in Rivers State (both PDP and APC) have been campaigning for ages now. Let nobody come here and talk about crossing T's snd dotting the I's of governance. There is nothing like governance in Rivers State or in Nigeria as a whole. All we have is looting. 2 Likes |

I wonder what Amaechi think he is. Few months ago, APC and their internet rats made us to believe that the problem of rivers state was CP Mbu, Today, it has become obvious who is the beginning and end of Rivers State crisis. 3 Likes |

After several months of PDP and d police trying to illegally remove Amaechi from office failed, d PDP has resorted to open confrontation on Amaechi and APC. But in all, they keep failing in their attempts. because d PDP has never had it rough like this since 1999. Its no longer business of carry go as usual for d PDP. APC has come to stay as an opposition party so d PDP must accept this. Just d way most Nigerians advice d north that producing the president is not their birth right, so also we are advicing d PDP that d era of thinking there will be no opposition to challenge them on seat is over too. 1 Like |

It was purely apc campaign in Rivers State, carried out by Ameichi and his loyalists. Two days ago in my area(Rukpokwu) where I reside,Ameichi's supporters and entourage were all in apc T-shirt and brooms, shouting apc slogans all over the place.I wonder why a tour or town hall meeting would result to that.Anyway my greatest joy is that the world would gradually come to understand the reason Ameichi and Joseph mbu constantly had problem when he was still River's CP. |

Amaechi as the governor is free to attend town hall meetings and gatherings in all wards. He isnt doing anything new that his colleague governors in Abia, bayelsa etc are currently doing and those that attend come with pdp tshirts and cap. Infact if amaechi has the time, he should go to every street and get his feedback. That is the purpose of governance and it's the duty of ogunshakin to provide adequate security. A day before the mayhem, amaechi was at Okporo road in obia akpor and he was well received with no skirmishes. The commisioner raised salient points. Where was ogunshakin when shepopotamus came to town under plain politics? Killer flag everywhere? When this community endorsed the incompetent wike, where was ogunshakin caution? Amaechi has the executive governor should proceed with his tour and receive his feedback. To hell with detractors. 1 Like |

Ogunshakin should face his work which is to ensure security of lives and properties instead of telling the governor what to do. This isn't the time of campaign and amaechi isn't campaigning afterall he hasn't adopted anyone but the same can't be said about those fools adopting wike. When the killer members gather, they do so peacefully wirh no thugs coming to disrupt them but when apc peeps gather, thugs from the killer side tend to forment. trouble. This is what ogunshakin ought to tackle. Ensure safety of lives and properties for all gatherings enshrined in the constitution and deal with trouble makers. Any attempt to do more than this will lead to disaster. Amaechi remains the governor and he has a state to govern. Miscreants won't stop him from doing such. 1 Like |

So, you mean Amaechi should not talk about his party anywhere he goes. Only in Rivers State. Stylish silencing, impossible. Hope Ogunshaki will not land in Chibok 'cos Amaechi is not a puppet, He conquer Mbu one time, so. 1 Like |
