VivaLaFrans: My lower trapezius is wasting to almost nothing and my shoulders are drooping forward (hunched). What should I do? What exercises can reverse the drooping shoulders syndrome?

VivaLaFrans: I knew Nigeria is a place where the depressed is expected to rot and die. Patrick Sawyer made a very big mistake thinking that Nigeria's medical system can be relied on. Please give a reasonable advise or pass by. Thanks.

am really sorry to hear about your condition..but be rest assured that there should a solution.

You didnt give us adequate information to enable us offer suggestions to you.

When exactly did you begin to notice this?
Are both shoulders affected?
Are/is any other part(s) of your body exhibiting this sign?
Is it preventing you from carrying your daily activities?

Lastly, i would advice you to be optimistic in your diction. "wasting" is a terrible word/disease in the medical field. We hope that you are not actually suffering from a wasting syndrome

It is well bro

God bless you brother. Actually, its my left shoulder that is mostly affected since 2010 due to my imbalances in my chest and back muscles. I sat down all day working on manual screen printers. A time came when I couldn't continue with the job and then I stopped after 6 months. I always felt pain in my neck and back. I also developed a forward head posture because I kept my head down and my two hands were working on the equipment. This posture is similar to that posture when you are typing, but the problem with mine was that my elbows and forearm were not suppoted by the table. ( it was impossible to rest my elbows on the table while working). Maintaining this posture daily, pressure was exerted on my left shoulder continously. The causes made the symptoms worse everyday. The forward head posture contributed to the internal heat and tingling I always felt in the base and back of my neck. I always felt some tingling like internal heat in the left side of my neck and shoulder, and this made my shoulder to become hunched and my back flattened. I used the term ''wasting'' because the left side of my upper back became flat as the shoulder became hunched. Two days ago, I tried to exercise my left arm by lifting bar bell up and then back down with both arms, one after the other, continously while I pushed my chest out to release the muscles of my chest. My left arm and back muscles are extremely weak. I forced them to awaken by lifting the bar bell until I reached muscle failure. When I reached muscle failure, I noticed that my my shoulder has dropped a bit. There are many routines I did which I am not able to list here. These routines had pushed the hunched muscles on my shoulder and base of my neck DOWNWARD. I dont feel those symptoms in the base of my neck anymore. The problem is 'I USE MY RIGHT ARM MORE THAN MY LEFT ARM IN DAILY ACTIVITIES', and my left arm adapted to it. But what is the problem with my left upper back? Is it a problem of the scapula or the Serratus Anterior? It is extremely flat compared to my right back. What can be done to reverse this? Thanks.

sorry about your condition. Most often we experience health issues as a result of lack of some nutrients, minerals, or vitamins in our bodies.
I will advice that while you seek medical help, eat like 200 grams fresh moringa leaves first thing in the morning and also add a pinch of sea salt to your drinking water. All this will supply you with the minerals, nutrients etc that your body needs. Quick recovery! Note: Sea salt or himalayan salt and NOT TABLE or IODIZED SALT

VivaLaFrans: Thanks guys, I finally found the cure for this. The problem is with my trapezius. Its extremely weak around my back and strong on my shoulder, causing the shoulder to be hunched and made my upper back flat. I tried some exercise today by lifting a bucket of water with my right hand while I try to stand straight with my chest pushed out. I felt the pressure on the muscles of the left side of my upper back (Scapula). The pressure is dragging the hunched muscles on my left shoulders back down and causing the muscles around the scapula to awaken. I also lifted the bucket with the affected arm and hold for 2 to 3 minutes to draw the shoulder back down to its normal position.
Am happy about your confidence and determination to make some research about what you are going through. All the best brother. Keep up the exercise, though consulting a physiotherapist wouldn't be a bad idea, but am sure if u keep up with your new routine, you'll activate those set of muscles. Most muscles that aren't used after a long while start getting weak and wasting, that's the essence of exercise. Thumbs up,man.

Wait a minute! You may be right.... But where do I get sea salt? I dont reside in the coastal regions of the country. And besides I've not seen a moringa leaf before. Please how sure are you that my condition is as a result of lack of vitamins? Give reasons and proofs please. Are you a certified Doctor? Thanks.

Thanks Man. That's a good idea. I need to see a physioterapist. God bless you.

Maybe if you look at the pictures on Google, you will know it. We have natural sea salt, Himalayan salt, hawaiian pink salt, Abyssinian salt(this one is native to ethiopia) etc. The one we are use to is usually the big grain salt that our parents were eating long ago before table salt came.

I am assuming that if you see the pictures of both the sea salt and the moringa trees, you might know what they are. Moringa is also sold in powder form in shops and stores. Most often you can find sea salt in local markets (as it use mostly to feed goats or so) but you can also find it in Big supper markets. Watch out not to buy iodized sea salt. I have been to some supper markets around and mostly what they have was Iodized sea salt. I normally buy mine in the local market. maybe you can find out in nairaland where to get it. As for moringa i can remember there use to be a thread here about it.

I had an excruciating back pain that caused me not to be able to stand up straight, even sitting down or laying was a real problem. They did all the medical examinations and found nothing, before i was introduced to some of these things as a friend thought may be i lack some essential minerals in my body. I cannot say for sure if it is because of the change of lifestyle of sipping salted water, performing salt water flushes to cleanse the colon, eating moringa in all its forms that healed or not. But i am fine now, i still do my job which entails sitting in front of the computer all day long.

@Elijah78, how did you use the sea salt for the colon cleanse? did the pains stop?
Re: Any cure by Elijah78: 11:50am On Aug 26, 2014
sheis: @Elijah78, how did you use the sea salt for the colon cleanse? did the pains stop?

The back pains did not stop immediately but with time i realize i was okay. That is why i noted that i don't know if all these contributed to the healing process as i didn't take medication (as scans and everything revealed nothing to treat). Just note that natural sea salt contains about 82 or more minerals that are essential to the body.

I use two teaspoon of natural sea salt on 1 litre of just warm water and i drink first thing in the morning, do not eat for atleast 2hours, if thirsty i drink water, if i want it to work faster i massage my stomach very often. It flushes the entire GI tract. Also helps with people suffering from odours etc. You really feel clean after a flush.

Note that natural sea salt is not dangerous for your body:
''The salt water solution is the same specific gravity (the same salt content) as the rest of the saline based fluids of the body. It therefore passes out of the alimentary canal without being absorbed or retained. Furthermore, once the system is clean and balanced, using a little salt to flavor your food will do no harm because the body is functioning properly, eliminating wastes, and absorbing nutrition as it should. As a result, the body can easily process salt along with other minerals and vitamins''
