2018: APC Searches For Aregbesola’s Successor by Johnnyessence(m): 7:01pm On Aug 21, 2014
Days after winning the August 9
governorship election in Osun State, the
leadership of All Progressives Congress
(APC) of the state in the West Senatorial
District has commenced consultations
towards finding an acceptable candidate
to succeed the incumbent Governor, Rauf
Aregbesola in 2018.
Aregesola’s second term will end in
November 2018 and in the spirit of
power shift and rotational system, some
claim, it would be the turn of Osun West
to present candidates for the coveted
seat. Former governors Bisi Akande and
Olagunsoye Oyinlola are from Osun
Central Senatorial District, while
Aregbesola comes from Osun East
Senatorial District. So, between 1999 and
now, the two senatorial districts, East
and Central, have presented candidates
for the governorship. The last governor
from the West axis of the state was
Senator Isiaka Adeleke, whose tenure
was truncated by military intervention
during the botched Third Republic after
20 months in the saddle.
Daily Sun gathered at the weekend in
Osogbo that three names were in focus
for the governorship at present. They
are the first civilian governor of the
state, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, former
Chief of Staff to former governor
Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Dr. Peter Babalola,
and current senator representing the
district in the Senate, Mudashiru
Hussein.leadership newspaper.
