and what is "goriness" about detecting faces? facebook does it now? so i now it is possible just that i am yet to have need of it.

easy bro. Heuristics is "informal" logic. Or simply "common sense". The kind you can use to write most business apps.
But can't use for scientific/highly precise apps at all or efficiently.
This is d kind u get if u learnt programming from a book,aptech,niit.
Formal logic includes mathematics etc. This is d kind u use for apps like digital signal processing and voice recognition systems(differential equations,fast fourier transform),
database systems (relational algebra), image editors (linear algebra), data mining (statistics,probability) ,cryptography(number theory) etc.
Symbolic manipulators/math systems e.g mathlab,maple (most of d field of maths).

Facebook does FR?! Yarn me somthing. I ddnt know. We are not safe anymore.

FR research is still in it's infancy though as at 2008 most materials on it were just highly academic professor papers.
