Arsene Wenger has left Arsenal fans livid after being spotted flying to Rome to referee a match for peace on transfer deadline day. With the Gunners in desperate need of reinforcements, supporters were expecting the Frenchman to devote all his energy to landing the key signings needed to fire the club towards a league challenge. However, after being photographed flying to Rome, it has now transpired that Wenger is in fact the guest of honour at the first Interreligious Match for Peace held at the Stadio Olimpico. The Gunners boss will be joined by the likes of David Trezeguet, Andrea Ranocchia and Andrea Pirlo for the one-off event in Italy. But despite Wenger nobly giving up his time for a fantastic cause, Arsenal fans have been left livid that their manager has seemingly abandoned his post on what could be one of the most pivotal days of the club’s season. http://metro.co.uk/2014/09/01/arsenal-fans-fume-as-arsene-wenger-flies-to-rome-for-charity-match-on-transfer-deadline-day-4852740/ 1 Like |

Arsenal are planning to make a £40million bid for Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus before the transfer window shuts. The Gunners have been chasing Reus for most of the summer and have been boosted in their attempts to sign him by reports that he’s turned down a new contract at Dortmund. Reus’ buyout clause drops to less than £20million next summer, and now the Daily Express says Arsenal hope to tempt Dortmund into selling now with a £40million bid. The paper says the offer will go in before tonight’s 11pm deadline and while they’re leaving it late, Arsene Wenger is still hoping to do business. |

This is only the third transfer window since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, and since then Manchester United have spent the same amount in 18 months that Fergie spent on players in 12-15 years! This whole situation just proves how great a manager SAF really was that he was able to get the best out of some average players. |

BBC Sport "Barring a late surprise, Arsenal are highly unlikely to make any signings before the transfer window closes. They remain in a number of conversations as they search for a back-up central defender and a holding midfielder, but currently it looks like nobody will be arriving at Emirates Stadium. So that also means no new striker despite the absence of Olivier Giroud until the new year through injury. "The Gunners have signed Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy, Calum Chambers and David Ospina this summer. There could be a couple of squad players leaving the club before the 11pm deadline." 1 Like 1 Share |
