who is the boko haram here?
who are the people sabotaging the efforts of the nigerian army?

Boko Haram insurgents have reportedly taken over the town of Bama in northeast Nigeria's Borno state, following heavy fighting with government troops, but the military disputed the claim.

Scores of Boko Haram militants on Monday launched pre-dawn attacks on troops that had deployed in the town in preparation for a large-scale offensive to reclaim territory seized by the Islamists.

.................................................................

The military initially seemed to have the upper hand against Boko Haram, but that changed when the military jet bombarded its own troops, forcing soldiers to flee, one resident said.

"The jet could not distinguish between soldiers and Boko Haram and bombarded the military barracks which was at the time under the control of soldiers," said Yasir Zarami.

"The aerial bombing destroyed the military barracks and forced soldiers to flee towards Maiduguri along with thousands of civilians."

Borno senator Ahmed Zannah told BBC radio's Hausa service late on Monday that Bama fell to Boko Haram and soldiers were forced to flee because the jet bombed and destroyed their barracks.

Something's not right here. We should go to Bama to see things ourselves. I need 10 volunteers. Two volunteers (preferably female models), will stay with me at the control center, while others will be our eyes and ears on the ground in Bama.

shiiite! if the nigerian army can't even perfectly co-ordinate an airstrike against the enemy, but rather destroy its own, then we are finished. Its a matter of time they repeat the same 'mistake' again. No wonder gej feared going to borno till this day, beacause a 'friendly fire' might just find him. how many of these actually have to happen untill we know there are saboteurs in the army?

The definition of incompetence .
After 5yrs of Boko haram,Nigeria still does not how the required gears for this war.
Jets are for hit and run attacks on mostly static targets, helicopter gunships remain on and hover over the battlefield.
Even America ,with her precision laser guided and gps guided system will never depend on jet for battlefield supports in a fluid battlefield .
Destroy enemy lines , YES
On a fluid battlefield ,NO
This why they use drones for this purpose .Drones can stay over the battlefield for 48hrs .
I refrained from making comments earlier ,thinking the bombing raid on the barrack was to destroy ammo dumps and military supplies so as to prevent the gears from falling into Boko haram's hand.Alas,I was wrong.it is just another in the life of this clueless government and the clueless generals who are only there to ensure the rigging of the next election.

USAF has taken out friendlies on occasion, that possibility is greatly increased when you are using 30 year old airframes out dated avionics and weapon targeting systems as opposed to precision guided munitions.

I aint surprise. When you have and outdate avionic system ,dummy ordinance and fast moving fighter jet=Alpha. NO painting team/intel When even the Multirole f16,22 tyhoon su27 n co with precision guided bombs still use teams on ground to laser or paint target with good comm

We bought a few drones from Israel for near $20 million through a 3rd party not direct procurement where you will have substantive guarantees on functionality and as such they are not airworthy or even serviceable. The usual 9ja factor.

The US army strykers and a whole series of US armoured vehicles have connectivity and can laser paint targets wile they are in fierce combat.
