*HELP* Mechanic Spayed Carb Spray Into My Actuator... by donsola(m): 3:04pm On Sep 04, 2014
So it happened that i had a misfire from my car, and my mechanic said it was my spark plugs that needed a change, I bought four set of spark plugs and the dude installed it,
This didn't abate the misfiring so I asked him to troubleshoot, he did this and I saw him bring out a can of carb spray, I asked if a carb spray was applicable to work on an actuator, before I could say jack the mofo sprayed it in the actuator i was told to start the vehicle.. next my car was high on idle speed between 2000 to 2500rpm.... The whole thing has not been resolved. I need a solution fast.

The spray did not cause the high rpm.

Probably a loose intake hose or a bad throttle body.

Please give more info about your vehicle and what was sprayed into where cause I'm just guessing he sprayed carb cleaner into the butterfly area of the throttle body to clean the excessive build up of dirt.

Wat actuator are you talking about be more specific. Give us proper details of car. There are so many actuators on cars but I want to believe you talking about the throttle actuator

Had a problem like this once. The Mech used same carb cleaner but there was only a little difference, till he later found that one of the injector nozzles was faulty.

I buy injector cleaners occasionally to avoid this.

Thanks for all the responses... my car is the 2007 accord, he sprayed it into the throttle actuator through the butterfly flap. The car is still revving btw 2000- 3000 rpm. Solutions pls

He did exactly what he is suppose to do, but it is possible in the past when that thing was dirty someone increased the speed now that it is clean it is where it set to, IAC needs cleaning, or vacuum leak.

Experts will look at voltage of IAC at idle to know what is not working right.

Unfortunately you don't know about cars, but here is an opportunity to learn

What's the vehicle repair history regarding the throttle body and idle speed? Its possible idle speed was manualy increased when there was build up of dirt in the past to set the idle, and now that your mechanic has done the right thing there's no dirt to stem the tide of airflow which is causing your high rpm. Or you might just have a bad throttle body.

If youy have any of this lights on while engine is running
Then run a scan to narrow down the possible causes.

I've had the same issue before. Your problem is quite simple. Probably the butterfly valve inside the TB isn't closing fully as it should in idle. Like Gazzuzz pointed out, if you are sure the idle speed control hasn't been tampered then have your mech push the valve close with his hand while the engine is off, then couple securely (let them seat properly with the hose clips on the marks they were before removal) all air/vacuum hoses including the very big hose (intake hose) that enters the TB. Finally let him perform the idle relearn procedure.

Idle Relearn Procedure:

1. Allow the car to rest for some hours
2. Start the engine leaving the gear in Park or Neutral
3. Step on the throttle and rev the engine to 3000rpm and hold it there until the engine reaches normal working temperature or until you hear your radiator fan come on and off twice
4. Release the throttle and allow the engine to idle for 5mins
5. The idle speed should come down to normal all things being equal

Your car needs to relearn its idle settings. The spray probably removed chunks of dirt. Start the car and allow the car idle until the fan comes on like Gazzuz suggested. This should take about fifteen minutes. The idle will drop down on its own. I had a similar experience after spraying carb cleaner on my intake butterfly valve. The rev went up and wouldn't come down. I reset the ECU and the idle went back to normal. I don't know if u can do that reset on your accord without losing ur radio codes.
