BBC Launches Hausa TV News Programme by astana1: 3:07pm On Sep 09, 2014
The 10-minute weekday bulletins are the first time an international broadcaster has aired news programmes in the west African language.

Hausa is spoken by an estimated 50 million people in Nigeria, Niger and parts of northern Ghana.

The bulletins will be available on the BBC Hausa website and rebroadcast on some TV channels.

Liliane Landor, World Service controller of languages, said: "We are proud to be the first among international broadcasters to launch TV content in Hausa."

"The new TV bulletins will further broaden BBC Hausa's appeal to audiences - on TV and online - and reinforce the BBC's presence on the African media arena.

Hmm..I'm coming let me get something, I'll be back. Yes I got it from wikipedia.
The Hausa are a racially diverse but culturally homogeneous people based primarily in the Sahelian and Sudanian areas of northern Nigeria and
southeastern Niger , with significant numbers
also living in parts of Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire ,
Chad , Togo , Ghana , [2] and Sudan. The largest
population of Hausa are concentrated in
Nigeria and Niger , where they constitute the
majority.
.
Well they have to promote other major dialects for fairness.

the Hausa Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is scheduled to launch TV news bulletins today on two Nigerian terrestrial stations and a West-African satellite station.

BBC's TV content in Hausa is going to be a first for any international broadcaster, an official said. The BBC has been broadcasting radio programmes in Hausa since 1957. At present, the Hausa radio programmes run four times a day. The corporation is expected to issue a statement today to give details on the new Hausa TV programming.
