Plough Back To Service

BY SUNDAY EGEDE
DELTA State Head of Service, Sir Paul Evuarherhe has called on participants at the seven weekend management training course organised for senior management staff in the state civil service to reciprocate government’s gesture by ploughing back into the service the knowledge they acquired during the training to improve the quality of service delivery for the benefit of Deltans.
Evuarherhe made the call recently while formally declaring closed, the 11th batch of the seven weekend management training course organised by his office in collaboration with the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON).
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Barrister Goban Emmanuel Okirhiengefa, the HOS said “it is my belief that within the past seven weeks, you (participants) have undergone a process of intellectual refreshment which is expected to prepare you for a higher level of responsibility at the top management hierarchy of the civil service where decision making must be knowledge-driven and effective”.
According to him, the challenges associated with the task of repositioning the civil service in the contemporary modern society demand that those entrusted with that responsibility must equip themselves with the necessary knowledge and practical management skills and techniques to confront and surmount such challenges, adding that “this underscores the imperatives of high-level capacity building initiative of the state government”.
“From inception of this programme till date, the civil service of Delta State has witnessed a remarkable level of improvement, not only in terms of the quality and character of individual civil servants but, also, in terms of the quality of service delivery in the Delta State civil service”, he said, adding that much of the modest achievements were attributable to the commitment of the state government to the training as well as the expertise and co-operation of ASCON in ensuring that the programme continues to achieve the purpose for which it was initiated.
While commending Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan for his sustained support for training programme, Evuarherhe reiterated that the only way to reciprocate the gesture of government is for civil servants to rededicate themselves to duty by making the best use of the knowledge acquired at the various training programmes to faithfully implement government policies and programmes”.

In his address, the Director General of ASCON, Mr. Ajibade Peters who was represented by Dr. Samuel Olowe said that he was optimistic that the participants, having interacted with various resources persons, have been strategically positioned to drive positive change and offer more than before, effective service delivery in the state.
Also speaking during the ceremony, the Chairman of Delta State Civil Service Commission, Dr. Emmanuel Tetsola, who congratulated the participants, however, urged them to add value to the state civil service in the course of performing their official responsibilities.
