Until Spectranet and other operators spreads their tentacles everywhere like MTN they will continue to play catch up.

If subscriber base is judge based on cities alone, I am certain MTN will not be first in places like Lagos, Abuja and PH. Smartly they are the only network you are like going to see competing everywhere including very rural area and this is what is responsible for the massive advantage.

Did you notice how Etisalat has closed down on Airtel and GLO even when the other operator have a 7yrs head start?
uptill now we dont have mtn 3g network in gboko benue state.. And u ar claiming mtn is evry where, rada we have glo, airtel and resently etisalat 3g network here....
So mtn is not as good as u hyped it be.

MTN has the number 1 spot.
We run a bulk sms company (https://www.magicbulk.com) and i can tell you from our combined daily report that
65-85% SMS sent out are meant for MTN numbers, on a daily basis.

I have been on the airtel network for over 11 years, they have been fantastic but the last 6 months, i completely stopped loading the line. My reasons

after subscribing to a data plan, Airtel will creatively ignore your data account and charge your naira balance.
once your naira balance is zeroed, they come back for your data.
This can be very upsetting if you have a huge naira balance mean for other purposes.
When you call them up, their customer care will most of the time hangup on you and send you a message that your issue has been successfully resolved.

With this dubious approach, i realized my monthly recharges have skyrocketed by over 400%
i just had to stop using it and i am so glad that Nigerians are able to express their grievances by leaving airtel.

I think NCC needs to ensure a standard that calls to customer care lines be made terminable by the customer.
they may also consider a standard number for account balance checks, data checks across all networks.
It is becoming complex daily processing short codes in our head.

Also account balance checks should be #124# on Glo and that should be it
after dialing that, what you see is adverts that we dont read anyways, to see your real balance, you have to dial redial 1 and wait which is bad user experience design IMHO

Congrats to GLO
To simply check account balance once, dial #124*1# and the reason in my opinion why glo displaced airtel from second spot might not be unconnected with its #1000 for 3gb BlackBerry plan.

So mtn is not as good as u hyped it be.

There is a a reason they have double the subscribers other competitors have. No one is hyping them. Subscriber numbers are there for all to see.

Did NCC hype mtn by giving them 50mill+ subscribers too?

Etisalat is the fastest but their data bundle is at high side. To me any network want to get more customers is to improve on their internet service.

For those of you that haven't been able to use glo bis on Android phones, I'm happy to let you know that it is now possible to use the glo bis on htc, Motorola, Samsung s3 and all MTK devices. Just add me on bbm and whatsapp with 7c8bf103 and 08062244837 to get the settings.
