Members of the Boko Haram group has reportedly attacked Shaffa, a town in Borno State, bringing down about 20 people.

Sahara Reporters made it known thatShaffa, which is located in the southern part of Borno State and is about 137 miles from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, was rocked by the acts of the insurgent group. Suspected Boko Haram members conducted another raid in the area, shooting and killing many and attacking churches.

“They opened fire on villagers and set churches and homes on fire,”said the pastor and the resident of Shaffa Emmanuel Wida.
”The attacking insurgents screamed “Allahu akbar!” as they wreaked death and destruction in our community,”he said, adding that the attack lasted for three hours and left no fewer than 20 people dead.

“All our churches as well as many homes were razed down. As soon as we heard their screams, gunshots followed. My younger brother is among those killed,”said the pastor, adding that survivors had collected 20 bodies so far.

However, another resident, Yohanna Adamu said: “We ran into the mountains to hide until the morning when we started a journey to Biu. We just found our way to Biu this afternoon.”

Confirming that the churches were attacked,Yohanna said that countless houses were burnt down in Shaffa. He also made it known that he is rather confused as he has not been able to contact his parents since the unfortunate incident.
It would be recalled that earlier this week, about 50 Boko Haram members were arrested while trying to move from Damboa area of Borno state to Gombe in a goat truck. The recent attack comes as a retaliation strike by Boko Haram members who have lost many fighters in recent clashes with the Nigerian Army.
