The owner of a noodle restaurant in Shaanxi in China has confessed to adding opium to his dishes in order to ensure customers would keep coming back. The noodles seasoned with an ingredient used to make opium were discovered when Liu Juyou tested positive for drugs during a routine urine test by traffic police, according to the Xi’an Evening News. Juyou was adamant he hadn’t taken drugs and started to suspect the noodle shop he’d eaten at hours before. Relatives who also ate there took drug tests, and all came back positive. According to the Hua Shang Bao daily via the BBC, the restaurant owner named Zhang, admitted to buying poppy buds containing seeds and crushed them into a powder to spread on his noodles.
