AMENDMENT to the Electoral Act being considered by the House of Representatives on ran into troubled waters when a member of the committee raised an alarm that a certain clause of the amendment was deleted at the committee level but resurfaced for consideration.

This is even as the House almost experienced another rowdy session during the consideration of report by the House Committee on Electoral Matters on Electoral Act No. 6, 2010, However, before the Deputy Speaker Honourable Emeka Ihedioha who presided over the committee of the whole suspended consideration of the bill indefinitely, the House granted the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) the exclusive powers to request for deployment of military during elections by amending Section 29 (1) of the Electoral Act.

There was heated argument between members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by the Deputy House Leader Honourable Leo Ogor and All Progressives Congress (APC) led by the Minority Leader Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila before the passage of the amended Section 29(1) of the Electoral Act.

A point of order from Honourable Simon Arabor led to the  suspension of further consideration of the report when he complained that clause nine proviso surprisingly remained on the new amendment.
