The governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Akpabio publicly declared, during the 27th anniversary of the state, that the elders were not useful, adding that if the youths followed them, they would be misdirected.

Nigeria Business Review gathered that owing to that assertion, some People’s Democratic Party (PDP) elders and leaders in Akwa Ibom State, on Monday, drew the battle line against the state governor for inciting the youths against them.

The leader of the group and former Minister of Petroleum, Chief Don Etiebet, described the comments as an incitement of the youths against the elders of the state. He asked the youths not to listen to the governor’s call but to look up to the elders for inspiration, training, counseling, blessing and preparation to take-over from them in the future.

The ex-minister criticised Akpabio for lying against them and telling people that the elders had distanced themselves from his administration because he refused to share the resources and allocation of the state with them.

Chief Etiebet, also challenged Akpabio to substantiate his allegation and emphasised that he (Akpabio) decided to cook up such lies against them just because they advised him against extravagant expenditure.

Akpabio only said that because of his desperation to install a successor . Is it just now that he is discovering that the elders are not worth following?
Why is he fawning like a puppy after PDP chieftains at the national level?

Its unfortunate that Akpabio could say a thing like that. Has he forgotten that he Akpabio, is equally an Elder in that state? Maybe he Akpabio is equally useless because he is an elder too.
