One of the reasons why Entertainment bloggers have become so popular in Nigeria is really because it takes minimal effort to reach a targeted audience. With few lines on her blogging platform, an article is published and everyone is excited to see whose bo*bs has been exposed, whose relationship has hit a brick wall or whose car was bought at an exaggerated amount.

The Nigerian society is tailored along such pattern, that people generally find much interest in other persons lifestyle than themselves. They believe entertainment is only way to attain wealth and everyone is literally looking for ways to break through, in the industry which has exploded in the last decade and doing well externally.

However, it must be said that the bane of every society doesn’t lie in the hands of entertainers, there must be a balance in the system. Unfortunately, no such balance exists, government at all levels have given little or no importance to developing technology in Nigeria and that can explain why great startups are born in Nigeria and are dead on arrival. Thanks to TechCabal, the guys over there have contributed to the enhancement of a few startups in Nigeria and they surely deserve a commendation – An entertainment blogger whispered to me that they have got heavy funding from Konga, that I can’t verify at this moment.

So, without wasting too much time. Lets settle this; Tech Bloggers vs Entertaiment bloggers in Nigeria.

The Final Showdown!
Technical bloggers do all the dirty jobs, they test what they are going to publish and most times, they spend days or even weeks crafting a single article. These articles are written in thousands of words, with some having graphical explanation and then, the big one; replying to comments and ensuring the approach used in fixing a problem works across board, otherwise, the reputation of the technical blogger is put on the line.

Entertainment bloggers make use of microblogging platforms like Twitter and Facebook 10-times a technical blogger. This is where they meet a large part of their audience, who re-echo their works for a trend on a particular topic to be initiated. Little or no work is required, all that is needed, is to stir up the atmosphere a little with images and videos, this in-turn, provokes a corresponding reaction with tens of thousands of visitors flocking in to see whose on a scandal meter.

Technical bloggers have to ensure what there are reporting is factual and accurate. A technical blogger doesn’t awake to write few lines on a tutorial article. I mean, one hundred and forty characters is perfect to share how you feel, link to a touching story or share your thoughts about a celebrity, but it is completely worthless when you want to share a full article about a subject neither it is suited for “How-To’s” on technology.

Entertainment bloggers do little to verify facts, most times, it’s really difficult to tell if a news posted on an entertainment blog was crafted on the foundation of facts or just a personal opinion. With time, you get to see different versions of a particular situation and everyone is confused! They have been times when celebrities employ the use of social networks to rain insults on these popular entertainment bloggers over fraudulent information about them. You certainly can’t blame the actions of such celebrities as they are usually done out of frustration. You don’t build a name and wait for one lady sitting on her crouch to dent it because a lot of persons in their mediocre mentality would believe anything without taking a break.

Technical bloggers in Nigeria have to get familiar with the best Search Engine Optimization tips or get lost in the wind. The is an added task and takes a great deal of time to follow web standards. A technical blogger has to keep pumping original article into her blog, distinctively arguing on products or services with verifiable facts, writing previews, reviews and all of these have to be done professionally. Readers would be making a “buying judgement” on such articles. If a technical blogger lies that a product is absolutely perfect and readers make use of his judgement to purchase an item only to find out the product was completely awful, that could spell the end of a technical blogger. Any other thing she recommends would fall on blind eyes. Generally, professional technical bloggers are extremely careful when dealing with such issues.

Entertainment bloggers in Nigeria do lot of things, just to get traffic. For example, you could see a story; Tonto Dike hot laps exposed in a supermarket . You open the link and see an entirely different story. They don’t care about reputation, all they want is the money and judging by statistical data, they have got it more than technical bloggers, only in this part of the world though, because of the huge margin between both side of the divide.

Who Makes More Money?

If you have read the article up to this point, I am pretty sure you’d know where the money goes to. Entertainment bloggers tend to make more money than technical bloggers in Nigeria and I will tell you why. Like I said earlier, the Nigerian society tailored towards entertainment.

Government officials are seen daily, peddling with entertainers, they share tables together and many of them are ambassadors in several rights, while the owners of technology startup are left to rot at the mercy of fate. Well, let me send a message to you guys out there, creating a startup is pretty a heavy task and it’s pretty harder to succeed in a Nation like Nigeria but do not relent, Nigeria can’t remain an entertainment poisoned nation forever. There would always be change, and then, your worth would be valued.

Unimaginable innovations like “TALK” from Arsh Shah Dilbagi – a 16-year old Indian shocked the world. TALK lets the dumb speak again, this could be traced to genius efforts from technology bloggers in Indian and was consolidated by Google at the Google’s Global Science Fair.

On the sideline, entertainment bloggers make money from covering events, promoting artists, and the likes. Technical bloggers make little money from selling products via affiliates, writing reviews, e-books etc. These is purely based in the Nigerian settings, the margin of income earning is quite different elsewhere.

Final Thoughts
No disrespect to entertainment bloggers, it’s not easy keeping up with fresh news and ensuring their fans are happy always. Although, a lot of these entertainment bloggers have earned themselves a dis-conforming reputation for spreading mischievous lies from the pit of hell, just to solidify their relevance. However, you guys deserve much better, you guys can be progressive with your news instead of corroding an already degenerated society. You guys can take a break!

You complain about the ills of the society. Yet, you keep pumping unclad images of celebrities, our kids are no longer interested in working, most of them look up to a celebrity and we think it’s just a normal thing. There is nothing normal about that insanity and it’s a fact!
