Arrests are not asked for but certain unfortunate circumstances might lead one to getting arrested. When arrested by the Nigerian Police, it would be important to know what rights you have and what boundaries the Police shouldn't cross.
Here they are:
1. When arrested, you have a right not to say a word or answer any question you are asked until you have consulted your lawyer or an important person-section 35(2)

2. You should know your offence within 24 hours- according to section 35(3); section 36(6)a

3. You should be released, unconditionally, if after 2 months(in detention) you haven't be taken to court- according to section 35(4)(5)

4. If it's discovered that you were unlawfully (falsely) arrested and detained, you are entitled to compensation and public apology from whosoever ordered your arrest or arrested you- according to 35(6).

But it's important to know that all these wouldn't apply if your offence is a capital offence (you are accussed of kiling someone)-according to section 35(7)a. And if you're a memeber of the armed forces, the law only ensures that your detention doesn't exceed 3 months-according to section 35(7)b.

But it's always best to avoid being arrested; by staying out of trouble.
